Q:I leave in Myrtle Beach, SC. What would be the appropriate roof load for this area? Do I need engineering and county approval for 24x14 patio?
      by|Apr 25, 2024

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello Alesika Your snow load is only 5 lbs....but your wind speed requirement is 148 mph. We reviewed the engineering and kit you cited above will comply with the snow load and the 148 mph wind speed requirement. You would need to ask your local building department if you need to submit for a building permit. If yes, they most likely will require sealed/stamped engineering to submit for the permit. We are able to order and provide electronically sealed engineering as a separate order transaction for your kit order. The cost is $285 plus tax.

A:  Hi Pamela If you live in a no-snow area we recommend a minimum of 4 inches on this 8ft deep cover to allow the water to run off the roof panels into the Front Fascia/Gutter. If you live in a snow area then 6 inches minimum would be recommended. Thank you W

              Answer This Question

A:  Hello Michelle, River Grove has a 25 lb ground snow load requirement. OPTION #1 : You would need to fasten a wood ledger 2" x 4" or 2"x6" to the brick wall first.. Using long lags screws going through the brick veneer to the wall wood framing studs and header behind the brick. Then cover the wood with aluminum fascia from Home Depot...then attach the patio cover kit to the wood ledger. OPTION #2 : Remove your house gutter and fasten the patio cover to your house fascia board. Thank you W
