Q:Does this closer work on EMCO doors?
    by|Aug 10, 2020
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Gordy, Thanks for your question! Yes, our closers are compatible with EMCO doors. If you have a full glass pane or if your door is over 60 lbs, we would suggest our heavy duty system. For lighter screen and storm doors, we would suggest the standard duty single kit. All the best, -- CT Greenstar Technical Team Touch n' Hold

A:  Yes, this can be installed at the top of the door.

      by|Feb 19, 2020

A:  Thanks for your question! Our closers can be positioned on the middle, top, or bottom of the door--whatever your preference. It's great for wheelchairs, as it doesn't get in the way and it offers a full 90-degree opening angle.

Q:Is this a universal replacement pneumatic door closer?
          by|Nov 9, 2019

          Answer This Question

A:  Hi thanks for your question. Our closers are universal replacements for most storm, screen, and security doors. Most of the time, our closers even fit the existing hardware on your door. In cases where it doesn't the kit you'll receive includes all necessary hardware for installation. Hope this information helps!

A:  Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Sorry to hear that your Touch n Hold jammed up on you. We've seen this issue a few times with our product and can likely fix it with you with some quick troubleshooting. Can you please try the following: 1) Remove the closer off the door by pulling out the 2 pins fastening it to the brackets.  2) Take a thin screw driver or use the longer pin to place in the pin hole at the end of the metal rod.  This you will use as a handle (it will make a T).  3) With one hand grab the cylinder and the other hand grab the metal rod.  Pull the two apart slightly and turn the rod 180 degrees (you may have to pull pretty hard).  The rod should release and the door closer should work fine.  If this does not work, please let us know so we can assist further.

A:  Have you tried opening the door a bit further? That should work to release the closer and allow the door to shut.

Q:Is the use of a wind chain stop recommended with these units?

                  Answer This Question

A:  I have ordered these for several installs at a multi dwelling residency. They do not come with chains nor have I found any reason to need one added on. There are sets that come with chains, if that is your preference for where you are located, the amount of wind etc. that you experience upon occasion.

A:  Thanks for your question! In areas with constant, heavy wind we would suggest equipping your door with a wind chain. The pneumatic closing resistance of this closer would likely not be enough to support your door in a windstorm. Let us know if you have any other questions for us--we're here to help!

Q:Due to high speed wind blasts I have two air break closers on my storm door (one at the top - one at the bottom). My question is should I replace ONE or BOTH of the current closers with the TOUCH'N HOLD closer? If I replace ONLY ONE of the current closers will I end up with a kinda hybrid door with unexpected consequences? For example will the obnoxious back-slamming aspects of the conventional closer eliminate the pleasant function of the slow closing TOUCH'N HOLD.?

                        Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for your question! We would suggest that you replace both of the closers on your door, due to the "unexpected consequences" that you mentioned. If the stroke of the rod and the pneumatic pressure for the closers that you have on your door are too different from that of our closers, you might get unwanted torsion in your door closing system, which could eventually damage your door or door jamb and the hardware on both. Depending on how different the closers are, you also might end up without the smooth closing cycle that our closers offer when used in tandem. Thanks for checking us out! A:  This door closer works smoothly. It holds up good and easy to operate. Keep one thing in mind, wind direction varies. It may release the lock by pushing the door in opposite direction. It happened to me.

A:  Sorry, I don't know. I would ask Home Depot if they can special order it or do a google search for the Manufacture to see if they have a website or other local suppliers. I hope you are able to find it, good luck.

Q:How do I screw this to a metal security door? Do I have to drill holes to the door?

                              Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for your question. If there is no existing hardware on your security door, you will have to pre-drill holes into the metal to install the brackets for our closers. If there are already brackets on your security door and jamb that fit our closer, then you will only have to orient the closer on your door and use the pins included in the kit. Let us know if you have any further questions about this!

A:  Yes you have to screw holes. Mine is in a metal screen door.

A:  Yes, you could probably use self tap screws. Be careful though, the piece you attach to the metal frame is plastic so you do not want to over tighten it or it will crack the plastic. The product I like because of the way it works by just tapping the top button to hold the door and just opening the door a little wider to take the Holder off so the door then closes again. Hope it works out.

A:  I purchased this closer to replace a broken one - so, there were already pre-existing holes in my metal storm door. However, my new closer matched up with only one of the holes. I drilled a hole so that the new closer would fit perfectly. If you have the right size bit and a good drill, this should not be a problem.

A:  It comes with 2 brackets that’s installed to the door and frame. Being metal you’ll need to drill pilot holes for your screws.
