Q:I'm looking for a vertical slide rod that mounts on gate or fence bottom and mounts in hole on floor or concrete driveway. Must have a name for this! Can not find!

A:  This is much too slender for that kind of job. I would start with "deadbolt" and work up from there.

A:  This one is made to mount left to right. You may need the cane style slide bolt. Look for cane slide bolt.

A:  You're probably looking for a Cane bolt similar to this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-12-in-Black-Gate-Cane-Bolt-15464/202042236 Other sizes are available.

A:  From what you are describing, it sounds like you are looking for a Cane Bolt.

              by|Feb 17, 2020

A:  It sounds like what you're looking for is a "gate drop rod". If ou search for that, you should find some. I hope that helps!

Q:can a bear break into it

A:  A bear can break into Fort Knox if it wants to...but seriously, this is a pretty strong latch but I would bet that the wood would give before the bolt would break. We used this on a shed for riding mower so not worried about bears getting in just people. If you keep food in an outside building you may want several of these bolts on the door to give it more tensile strength.

A:  I purchased this to replace the one a bear had “ripped off” our shed. The latch will probably keep a bear out, the wood it is mounted to needs to be solid!

A:  While I have not had to keep bears out where I live, I cannot imagine that this would keep a bear out. They are pretty crafty and when they want in, they get in. I hope this helps!

A:  Yes. it's not that sturdy. I actually have to replace mine.

A:  My sheltie was in within 5 min, so yes, a bear could definitely break in!

A:  quite frankly it might depend on the door itself I would think, but, if the bear is determined enough I would say probably yes. but it should deter anyway if it is just curious.

A:  Due to the price of the complete latch assembly, it would be cost prohibitive to special order just the 'U' piece. One option is to use an electrical conduit clamp which are galvanized metal. If black is absolutely needed, you could spray paint it.
