Q:I'm looking for a vertical slide rod that mounts on gate or fence bottom and mounts in hole on floor or concrete driveway. Must have a name for this! Can not find!

A:  This is much too slender for that kind of job. I would start with "deadbolt" and work up from there.

A:  This one is made to mount left to right. You may need the cane style slide bolt. Look for cane slide bolt.

            by|Feb 17, 2020

A:  You're probably looking for a Cane bolt similar to this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-12-in-Black-Gate-Cane-Bolt-15464/202042236 Other sizes are available.

              by|Sep 1, 2020

A:  From what you are describing, it sounds like you are looking for a Cane Bolt.

              by|Feb 17, 2020

A:  It sounds like what you're looking for is a "gate drop rod". If ou search for that, you should find some. I hope that helps!

Q:can a bear break into it

                Answer This Question

A:  A bear can break into Fort Knox if it wants to...but seriously, this is a pretty strong latch but I would bet that the wood would give before the bolt would break. We used this on a shed for riding mower so not worried about bears getting in just people. If you keep food in an outside building you may want several of these bolts on the door to give it more tensile strength.

A:  I purchased this to replace the one a bear had “ripped off” our shed. The latch will probably keep a bear out, the wood it is mounted to needs to be solid!

A:  Yes. it's not that sturdy. I actually have to replace mine.

                      by|Sep 24, 2019

A:  My sheltie was in within 5 min, so yes, a bear could definitely break in!

A:  quite frankly it might depend on the door itself I would think, but, if the bear is determined enough I would say probably yes. but it should deter anyway if it is just curious.

A:  While I have not had to keep bears out where I live, I cannot imagine that this would keep a bear out. They are pretty crafty and when they want in, they get in. I hope this helps!

                          Just as it should be
This slide bolt seems strong enough. I wasn't able to bend the bolt with my bare hands, although I didn't try any tools to bend it. Should I try that? The slide bolt arrived with basic hardware that most people would need to mount this deadbolt. It has two hasps as locations to put a padlock, so it can be used as either left or right side "closed".

I wanted to replace another type of latch on my gate. This looked like a good option and it is perfect for my needs. I needed to use some different bolts/wood screws due to the structure of my fence, but I’m absolutely happy with the final results.

NUT doe not fit: Excellent value, perfect fit for a gate BUT the 1/4" nut does not fit the 1/4" bolt
This bolt is lightweight, easy to install, reasonably priced. I gave it a 1-star as I had to search for a 1/4" bolt. Shocking that Everbilt did not provide the correct size nut. I already installed the bolt so returning it is tiresome - so now I have to find and buy nuts that fit.

I installed this on a gate door I built almost 2 years ago. It included all the hardware needed to attach it to the gate and can be used on the right or left side. Even after 2 years it looks about new. I am very happy with this purchase.

This does the job well, however I would have preferred that Lag Screws were supplied for the installation, which is what I used. So If you're considering this decide how you will mount it beforehand so you can get the lag screws.Mine is mounted to 2 X 4 and I have it installed so it uses a hole in the 6 X 6 post.
