Q:My pump is Everbilt 1/3 HP Cast Iron Sump Pump. 1 - Will it fit properly in this basin? 2 - Is this basin fairly stable? (pump is wobbling in the cement pit - cycles thrown off). Thanks!

                Answer This Question

A:  Hello RachERach. The Everbilt pump will fit in this basin. The basin provides a very stable base for any sump pump provided that the basin is installed level and per the installation instructions found at this link: https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/3d/3d9e0673-ea6f-4a77-a599-9bddceaf49ec.pdf

Q:I?m going to be installing in a basement ground and was planning on scaling down the pvc to 1? from the 1.5? opening on the pump I have. I was going to pump water up eight feet to the ceiling joists then along a twenty foot run to a drain. Will that work

A:  It's all about the pump. Make sure the pump is capable of an 8ft rise. I installed this basin in my basement same height with a longer run, works fine.

A:  I wouldn’t  Depending on amount of water entering pit pump would run longer also some pits water might have small particles that would plug inch line

A:  Check with the pump manufacturer. I wouldn’t recommend downsizing the pump line, it will create extra pressure and can cause premature failure.

A:  I belief the question is: Will the pump be strong enough really. Do some research on the pump "head". A back check valve would be suggested so the pump wouldn't have a 8' water in the pipe everytime it starts. Probably the back check valve would be 1 1/2" so I doubt you would have to reduce it. Install a long sweep 90 degree for the transition from up the wall to under the joist. You also should have a fall from the elbow to the drain (1/4" per foot) This is assuming drain is interior. That certainly would be easier with an unfinished ceiling. You should leave an air-gap to the drain, instead of stuffing it down that pipe. Have you considered an outdoor drain tile? It would probably be more finished looking, specially if you have finished ceilings. And would probably be a little less mess around where it goes in to the drain. Inside drainage would possibly not allowed to go into sewer in most municipalities. And you don't want to run it thru a septic tank.

A:  Hello Stephen. Thanks for the question. We think it best that you ask this question of the sump pump manufacturer as they will provide better guidance.

A:  Stay with 1.5 inch PVC, the 1 inch requires more pressure from the pump. I used 2 inch PVC for 100 ft, no problem.
