A:  Yes you would do better taking carpet up and sanding and staining then polyurethane them

        by|Apr 19, 2020

A:  Hi MMM, ripping the carpet from your stairs and going for a hardwood look is one of the most popular home projects. For tread recovering projects, we recommend our solid red-oak product called "FasTread." Search on Item# 203677241. This product is designed to fit over existing carpet-grade treads once the nosing is removed. We recommend using our "Reversa-Riser" (Item# 300431450) with the FasTread for a clean, finished look to your staircase. If you have additional questions, we’ll reply as quickly as we can. Or, you may call our Customer Service Line at 678-455-5188 (M-F, 8-4 ET) where we can assist you with most any question you have. Thank you!

A:  Hi Scythe, thanks for the question. These treads are made from 3 or 4 pieces of solid red oak, edge-glued together to form one red oak tread. This increases stability and strength of the tread, as one piece of solid material is more prone to twist, warp, and check. If you have additional questions, we’ll reply as quickly as we can. Or, you may call our Customer Service Line at 678-455-5188 (M-F, 8-4 ET) where we can assist you with most any question you have. Thank you!

A:  Yes - but it would require them to use the store's panel saw (like for plywood) so the associate would have to be comfortable in doing it.

A:  Hi Arador, these treads come in two different widths: 36 in. and 48 in. Since most stairs are not plum, or straight, you may need a little more tread than you realize to get the proper fit. If you have additional questions, we’ll reply as quickly as we can. Or, you may call our Customer Service Line at 678-455-5188 (M-F, 8-4 ET) where we can assist you with most any question you have. Thank you!

                        Answer This Question

A:  You'd have to try one to see. These are solid oak pieces in the middle with an oak veneer over them to give the appearance of a solid piece of wood. The veneer is the typical 1/8" thick, so once your CNC cut through that and into the wood below, you would see the veneer profile in the cut. could b a problem, but maybe not depending on how you finish the design.

A:  Hi Mac, we're unsure too! Know that these treads have an oak hardwood core, made from short lengths obtained from other manufacturing processes, that may not be oriented in the direction you want them to point, or would they have grain that matched what you wanted.
