A:  Just purchased so no problems yet. I do suspect down the road the finish will wear some because it is basically just painted on.

A:  I used caulk just around the holes. Some water can drip below when washing it.

A:  I learned that you shouldn't use plumbers putty on plastic parts as it becomes brittle quicker. Google it, also the Home Depot guy told me in store.

A:  The faucet unit sits on a plastic base that is inside the faucet and cannot be seen. I am sure it will seal just fine but I always use a small bead of clear silicone when installing faucets. In this case I put it on the plastic base that comes into contact with the sink and let it sit for about 30 minutes- enough to partially set up and then installed unit.

A:  They both should be the same height. It sounds as if something internally under the handle is not tightened down far enough.

Q:I recently had installed a Marquette American Standard Faucet which has not worked wo leaking from drain.

                    Answer This Question

A:  I am not a professional plumber. I read the instructions at least twice (it's mostly pictures) in Spanish/English and French/English. I installed the drain pipe as directed (the instructions call for neither plumber's putty nor silicone caulk) I had no difficulty with leaks. Possibilities: >>Your workman's prior experience installing faucets has caused him to install the faucet's drain pipe and stopper cable without reading the instructions. >>Your sink has a defect that prevents a proper seal. >>You might have a leak from the stopper cable insertion area. Check that the securing nut for the cable is snug. >>Check that the drain pipe connections below the sink are snug and not cross threaded. >>You could have a defective faucet. You may need to return your unit to the store for a replacement and try again.

A:  Yeah, tighten the nut under the drain! Mine was having the same issue initially when I hand-tightened it, but once I used a wrench and got a few more turns, it stopped leaking.

A:  The drain connection is a simple rubber stopper that is compressed to form fit the opening in the bottom of the sink. A number of things could be the source of the problem: a poor seat if not cinched tight enough or if seated cock-eyed; improper order or direction of assembly (the rubber piece must be fitted small end up to bottom of sink and with the slip disk between its flat bottom surface and the nut that tightens it up; missing silicone ring in the PVC connection; a cracked pipe or fitting; a non-standard hole size or shape in the basin; improperly fitted stopper connection, etc. I've recently installed three of these with zero drips from the drain fittings. Unless there was a defective part, I doubt that the supplied parts are at fault. If you have a chance to discuss the points above with your installer, or have him pinpoint the location of the leak, you might discover a solution before trying another product.

A:  The supplied drain pipe with the “Speed Connect” for the drain on the one I put in seems like a sealed unit. Make sure the water is not leaking where the supplied drain pipe connects to the P Trap with the compression fitting. Even though they say you don’t have too all of our leak problems have been where the plastic drain part joins. I used pipe joint compound in the plastic threads at both ends of the P Trap. Hand tighten, do not over tighten, the fittings and let it set up overnight and see if that stops the leak. I would check your overflow drain in the sink to make sure it does not have a blockage as that acts as an air gap for the drain which can slow the water from draining. Let me know how it goes.

A:  It sounds, unfortunately, like you have a defective unit. Make an inquiry to the manufacturer's help or assistance line. they may have an answer.

                      Answer This Question

A:  Since my American Standard Marquette has only been in less than a week I have not had to do anything and it does not leak. The handles have a cover cap in the center which just pop out and there is a Phillips head screw down inside. You can change the position and replace the O ring but this faucet has built in stops at 90 degrees and unlike older faucets I don’t believe they have traditional washers as it says it has washerless ceramic disc ECO valves.

A:  It uses a cartridge, not washers. Here's the parts diagram: http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/4f/4f28c327-a6aa-4eab-9411-93e3928b5f87.pdf
