A:  Not knowing what temperature zone you live in, I might suggest that you think about the possibility of that pipe freezing and how difficult it might be to make future repairs should there be a crack in the pipe.

      by|Jan 15, 2022

A:  While this might seem like a good idea, I would not do it.  If your attic is properly insulated there should already be plenty of insulation protecting it.  If not, use pipe insulation because embedding it in spray foam will make it difficult to access in the event of a leak or future remodeling.

            Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your inquiry and for your interest in the DAP Touch ‘n Foam products. The DAP Touch 'n Foam System 15 Spray Polyurethane Foam Kit does not use a flammable propellant (for application/dispensing). The "Community Answers" response text would only apply to the performance of the fully cured/applied foam. Detailed use/safety/handling/disposal guidance can be found in the usage/information package that was provided in your kit; this information can also be found on the DAP Website. Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

A:  It has a class 1a fire rating with a flame spread index of 25. I have seen it advertised as suitable for fire-block applications. It is not as flammable as wood but suspect it would off gas fumes you would not want to breath but at those temperatures you would not want to be breathing the air anyways.

Inconsistent. 2 out of 3 kits malfunctioned
I purchased 3 kits this morning for a small closet project. Two of the kits malfunctioned upon activation. The canister on the right leaked all of its contents after black strap was pulled up to activate kit and I only got about 25% of the product on the wall. The other kit worked well and there was no problem. All 3 kits were good until September 30. Temperature was not an issue as it was 86* today. The product that actually made it on to the wall came out as expected. Not sure why two of the kits malfunctioned and pretty much wasted the product. Disappointed in the performance especially since its not cheap.

                useless crap.
Followed the instructions exactly. When engaging the nozzles, one sprung a leak half way through the process thus spilling nearly all of the contents of that can into the box. Got maybe 1/10 of the foam from the sprayer as I should have.

                  Great for Small Projects
If you understand that its only doing 15 board feet, 15 foot by 1 foot by 1 inch thick this was great. I had a commercial product already in place but after removing the chimney needed to fill in behind it. I used 4 of the 15 Board foot product and it worked great i have about 3 inches of protection. Worked just like the video and i couldnt be happier.

                    not worth getting
followed directions on box, tempature was proper, made sure lines we un-kinked. sprayed nicely. expected coverage of at least 8 bdft from the system 15 and got less than 5 board ft also as curing it's pulling away from the studs. which is a big problem for insulating properly. i can make a can of great stuff go farther than this stuff. maybe the larger kits are better but this product is not worth the cost. i should have listened to all the negative. reviews for this one and stayed away

Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience with Touch ‘n Foam Pro System 15 Kit. Based on your commentary indicating that the foam "is pulling away" from the application substrate would tend to indicate that the surface may not have been sufficiently clean and/or that the surface was below the product's minimum application temperature. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you and so that we can arrange to provide you with replacement (or refund) for the Touch ‘n Foam Pro System 15 Kit that did not perform satisfactorily. Better than Great Stuff
I just finished using this product and it works as advertised. I got 15 board feet out of it and it worked flawlessly. All you have to do is follow the instructions and it works. Make sure you have it right side up for storage and then the proper side down for spraying. I will definitely buy this again and continue to use it.

                        Poor design
2 cans each with a blue tube attached to it. 1 can has a coupler in the middle of its blue line that is there I think to slow the flow rate. This coupler came apart under pressure and sprayed everywhere I snapped it back together several times ending with same result. Left me with a unfinished project and a huge mess to clean up.

                        Great!
I used two larger two cylinder packs to insulate a garage I built several years ago. Based on that experience, I used this small pack to insulate the rim joist cavities in my home where a few mice had been nesting. It worked great, covered 15 cavity spaces, so pretty much true to the advertised 15 board feet. It worked great.

                        Works fine
I used this to fill in some spots of insulation in a work van that were removed to to some body work. The hardest part about using this is guessing at how much to apply to get enough insulation where you want it. I think the term "theoretical yield" is quite accurate, it's a theory. In my experience, it's closer to 10 board feet, which makes this product kind of expensive. But to be fair, this is cheaper than other stuff I've found. And I followed the temperature recommendations. I had halogen lights on heating the area up. It applies very easily, and only took a couple of minutes to apply. I wish it didn't cure so fast. For my application, it would have been nice to be able to shape or mold it somewhat.

                        Doesn't measure up
After reading the product overview I believed this system would meet my needs. The attached photo shows an exterior stud bay with the foam in place from the first kit I used. Bay dimensions are 91" x 9.13" x 3.25" or 1.56 cu. ft. volume. There are DWV pipes in the cavity that measure 2.315 dia. and 136" total length or 0.33 cu. ft. in volume. The net stud bay volume was 1.23 cu. ft.. The kit is listed at 1.25 cu. ft. yield and one kit would be required for the project. Site conditions were (all degrees F): indoor ambient of 74, outdoor ambient of 76, wall surface of 71, and product temp of 74. All temps were within the recommended temperature range listed in the instruction guide. Product had been allowed to acclimate to site conditions per instructions. The photo shows approximately 1/2 of the 1.23 cu. ft. space was filled. Unfortunately, some material was lost before second kit arrived when some material liquified and had to be wiped away. This is visible as the tan/brownish foam in the photo. The white foam was as expected. The second kit arrived and the area was warmer. Unfortunately, the dispensed volume didn't increase with higher temperatures. Indoor ambient was 80, outdoor 93, wall surface was 82 and product was 80. The second kit result was consistent with first one. I still had ~ 25% of stud bay volume without foam insulation in it. Does this product meet it's own specifications? You be the judge.

                        Dear hvac,

We are sorry to read about your unsatisfactory experience.

These are several reasons an applicator may not obtain the desired theoretical yield from a Foam Kit 15.

                        1. We do not recommend a Foam Kit 15 for air sealing and insulating a large void such as described. There is not enough control and the dispensing is very dynamic.
                        2. First time users find it difficult to apply spray foam in a smooth even application. Spray Foam is almost always over applied. This reduces total expansion and square foot coverage. Applying spray foam too thick prevents maximum expansion.

We would ask that in the event that you ever feel that Touch 'n Foam is not dispensing as desired, please call our Technical Service department while you are on the jobsite for immediate support.
                        Thank you! SEAL-KRETETouchnFoam
