Answer This Question

A:  Great question, Ken! The Rust-Oleum Home Floor Coating System can be cleaned and washed after 7 days. We recommend using a mild soap and water. A mop can also be used on the surface! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:Can this be used on floors that is just plywood?
    by|Apr 26, 2024

    Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help, Veronica! While Rust-Oleum Home Floor Coating can be applied directly to wood surfaces, please keep in mind that this product will not smooth and fill in any surface imperfections. An additional coat of the Base Coat may need to be applied as well for full coverage. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:Can contractor paper or plywood be placed over traffic areas in kitchen while waiting for paint to dry?

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out, Jean! To prevent damage to the finish or for particles to get onto the coating, we recommend avoiding any sort of foot-traffic over the Rust-Oleum Home Floor Base Coating prior to applying the clear. You will need to wait at least 6 hours before applying the clear over the base. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Q:I used this product a couple of years ago and it's held up great. I used a darker grey matte and then sealed with your product on top. I would like to change the color to a lighter color now. Can I paint over the existing and what are the steps please?

        Answer This Question

A:  We're happy to help, Tara. Yes, you can recoat our Rust-Oleum HOME Floor Coating Kit using another kit. Be sure to scuff sand the surface to build a surface profile then thoroughly clean the surface like you did during your first application. The kit can then be applied the same way you applied the original kit. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

          Saved my tile
I purchased matte black tile that looked horrible after it was installed. It had a haze on it that no haze remover could actually remove. I used this and oh my god it looks gorgeous. Brand new. So much better. Easy to apply. Highly recommend.

Bought this to cover my old Saltillo tile kitchen countertops and it did not disappoint. Hard as glass and cleans up beautifully.

            Beware of hairs!
Got this as a temporary fix to cover old vinyl bathroom floors. Happy with the color, vanilla milkshake, and easy application. Time will tell if it holds up. The biggest pain is all the stray hairs that drop onto the floor out of nowhere when applying the top coat! I took every precaution with deep cleaning the entire bathroom and pinned my hair back but had to constantly wipe up stray hairs throughout the top coat application, annoying.

              It doesn’t last
The color I chosen ( Kona ) it’s beautiful, That being said, that’s all I see on this because the product didn’t last on my floors, Scratches, and the finish on some areas don’t look the same, it looks patchy and milky looking. My finish was matte. Honestly, I think it was just a waste of money.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experinece, Tamera. If needed, the Rust-Oleum Home Floor Coating System can be cleaned with most cleaners once it has cured. We recommend avoiding abrasive or harsh cleaning methods.

I think this is a good product overall, but the instructions are not accurate in terms of number of coats. It says they recommend one coat for tinted and two coats for white, I needed at least three coats of white and for using the color needed two with additional touch up. If you were considered designs like checkerboard or stenciling, I would say plan to spend a ton of time or if you want it to be perfect just do a solid color. Overall, I feel good about my results as a temporary move for replacing my bathroom floor in a few years. I think this will hold up okay too.

We appreciate you reaching out and sharing your experinece, Jamie! The coverage rate of Rust-Oleum Home Floor Base Coating will be dependent on the material that is being coated, application method, and if you are coating over a contrasting color.

                Overall satisfied
If you are ballin' on a budget/have ugly floors, this is a product for you. 1st I cleaned our tile with Krud Kutter, mopped with bleach/dish soap and let the floors dry. You want to make sure there are ZERO crumbs, hair, fuzz, lint, etc. on the floor before each coat of paint or you're going to have junk stuck in the paint. I used Steam Gray (cold super light gray) as the base coat (2 coats) and stenciled on Coastal Fog (warm light-medium gray) then finished with the top coat in matte finish.

                  Ruins Mexican Tile Floors
Do not paint your Mexican tile floors with white Rust-Oleum floor Base coating it is meant to be permanent and extremely difficult to remove and restore your terracotta Mexican tile floor to it's original terracotta beauty. This Rust-Oleum HOME® Base Coat White Paint product will potentially ruin your Mexican tile floor.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experinece, Bill. The Rust-Oleum Home Floor Coating System is not intended to be a temporary coating and is intended to last for years to come. With any coating, it can be removed by either sanding/scraping or by using a paint stripper. With any removal method, a test application is always recommended to ensure favorable results.

                    Looks amazing!
I bought this to cover up blue tile in my kids bathroom. I didn’t have high expectations from some of the reviews I’ve seen. I ordered the matte black color and I absolutely love it! I did have to apply 2 coats to cover the blue entirely. It doesn’t have a strong order at all and did not leave any brush strokes.
