We live in an east-facing apartment, about 15 miles east of NYC. My non-amplified antenna (another brand) can't receive Channel 7 (ABC) among the major networks without extending all the way to the outer wall (again, on the east side). With this antenna and its amp on, I can receive ABC without any problem on one of the inner walls.

This ranked very well in a comparison I read, which is why I bought it. Unfortunately, it is not much help in my location. It is better than no channels at all, which is what I experienced before, but I need to constantly reposition it and re-scan to pick up the one or two stations I can get. For some reason the only station that is always coming in is CBS? Check on-line to see where your nearest broadcast tower are located and position the antenna up high in a window facing that direction. One good thing is that I now get more done around the house without the TV always on :)

I have been looking to cut the cable cord for almost a year when lo and behold my newest issue of Consumer Reports arrived. This Wingard was their top rated antenna and it really works. A friend got an outdoor antenna, climbed a ladder, balanced in mid-air, ran cables, drilled holes and he gets 58 channels, he spent a weekend hooking his antenna up. I took this Winegard out of the box and hooked it up to my TV, ran a channel scan and received 28 channels. I then plugged this Winegard into the electrical receptacle (as it is amplified), ran a channel scan and got 58 channels. AMAZING. Took less than 15 minutes. Crystal clear HD picture is noticeably better than DirecTV. I now pay $70 a month total for internet, phone and TV. I am in the suburbs of Charlotte so reception is pretty good. The most important step in buying an antenna is to be able to return it if it doesn't work. Many won't work if the towers are too far away! I was super glad to see Home Depot stocked this antenna.

Works well for us here along the central Connecticut shoreline. We have 2 of these antenna, one upstairs and one downstairs. Both are oriented in the same direction, with about 9 feet elevation difference between them. We get about a half dozen more channels upstairs than down, but still 35-40 clear, watchable channels on the downstairs TV. Price here is a bit higher than at least one other place where you can get the same model.

So far so good. Have been using it for a few weeks. The prior indoor antenna had to be repositioned frequently from time to time, depending on atmospheric conditions, to pick up some of the local stations. We are on the backside of a hill, so reception has been spotty. That hasn't been a problem with this unit. My only issue has been how to hang it. Ended up taping it to a wall. Better if it had an actual hanger hook or loop, but not worth downgrading for that.

I have tried several different ones with poor results. With this one, I was able to actually mount it on a wall above the television and have very good results. The only problem incurred was when we have the ceiling fan on and it will make it flex at times, which can cause some artifacts with the reception. Well worth the money.

Winegard has been a respected name in the industry for many years but unfortunately the antenna did not work under these circumstance. My sister-in-law's home is about 20-25 miles from the main antenna zone and could only pick up 10 stations. We did several channel scans and moved the antenna a few times in an attempt at better reception. This did not improve our number of channels. My own home has an old school rooftop antenna and pulls in 45-50 channels, many of which are crystal clear HD. IMO if this Winegard antenna was placed about 10 feet higher - perhaps in the attic - it would pull in more stations. I don't believe any other flat panel antenna would do the trick. I would not recommend this antenna for homes 20+ miles from the source and at lower elevation. It may perform better if the antenna was higher up.

I purchased the Wineguard FL5500A about a month ago as a backup for those occasions when my regular cable TV goes out. It's essentially the same as the Wineguard FL5000 except for the addition of a small signal amplifier. This week my power company "blinked" the lights for one second. Not enough time to require resetting the clocks, but the cable was out for more than an hour. I connected the antenna's coax cable to my TV and did a channel scan. Three local stations showed up. Then I plugged the amplifier into the wall outlet and connected its USB cable to the antenna. I ran another channel scan and sixteen channels showed up. Much better! The antenna was placed on the living room wall next to the fire place. Other locations might produce better/worse results. All in all, the antenna was very easy to set up. The longest part of the setup was the channel scan. (Less than five minutes.) I estimate the reception range (in my area of north Florida) was about 40 - 60 miles. Picture quality was good.

I live just outside the East Gate at Eglin AFB and really didn't expect to pick up much of anything because of the long distance to any towers and the low elevation of my home, which in only 20 feet above sea level. I was somewhat supprised to be able to pick up 13 stations, about half of which were in HD. I was not able to pick up ABC, although I could pick up CBS and NBC, along with some other random miscellaneous stations. Areas with a higher elevation may have better luck with more station reception. Overall, I'm keeping it because I know it will pick up stations if I need it in an emergency, and it doesn't take up and room at all. Consist of only a flat antenna sheet that you stick to the wall, and a couple of cables.
