Simple to use, very portable, and well made. If you clean and repack (in original packaging) after each use, it can be a pain constantly disassembling. Simple solution would have been to ship assembled in an oversized HD carton. The carry bag available looks nice, but not protective when unit is put in back of truck.

Legs are to short!
I am happy with this product and the consistent quality of Weber products throughout my 25 years as a Weber customer. This Smokey Joe Grill would be ideal if it had an add on device to extend the length of the legs. It would make it outstanding in my opinion.

Handy Grill
the bowl and lid are made well, the legs unfortunately get blistering hot and will burn whatever they touch. I put this grill on a table to and I had to move it mid cook to prevent a disaster.

Thank you for being a Weber fan! We greatly appreciate your feedback. We are so sorry to learn of your experience.
We recommend keeping the grill away from any combustible material for safety reasons. This guidance is in our manuals and on our website:
"Portable and full-size charcoal models should be used a minimum of 5 feet away from recreational vehicles and combustible materials. Combustible materials include, but are not limited to, wood or treated wood decks, patios, porches, vinyl siding, and patio doors."
Our Support team will be following up via email to discuss this further. Thank you!

Not a fan
I do not recommend unless you are looking for a cheap grill. I have a large Weber Deluxe Performance grill and wanted this when grilling for 2. I tried it once and now looking for someone to give it to.

Not good
No complaints about quality of the the grill ,it's heavy duty and built to last, however it's a bad design. Lid is to shallow and bottom to deep , kinda backwards in my opinion forget about making a beer can chicken or anything higher than three inches. Also I have had charcoal go out even with vents all the way open, leave the lid cracked and it may stay going, good for hot dogs or hamburgers but not larger pieces of meat

Thank you for your feedback. We're surprised to hear that you are not satisfied with the design of your grill and we'll definitely bring your feedback to our team. We apologize for any disappointment!
If you notice that your charcoal is going out, we recommend checking that the charcoal is completely ready (ashed over) before adding it to the grill. We would also check to see that you aren't using too much charcoal and that the briquettes are allowing air to flow through.
We'd like to know more about your experience. Please look for an email from our Support team soon. Thanks!

Good for Tailgating but not "Serious" grilling
I already reviewed this once but Weber keeps sending me emails to review it so i'll modify my original review a little bit. This is a little grill--perfect for tailgating and camping if all you're going to grill is hot dogs, hamburgers or thin steaks. It's not built for "serious" grilling where you need the ability to grill with indirect heat because it's too small and, for example, will not accommodate Weber's grill baskets to keep the charcoal away from the indirect side.

Handy for burgers but little else
This little grill is good for 4 burgers and other items that require fast grilling but it is too small to attempt indirect grilling and does not accommodate Weber's charcoal baskets--i thought i was buying the "Jumbo Joe" which can be used for indirect grilling and does accommodate Weber's charcoal baskets

Response from Weber GrillsSep 28, 2021
Hello, thank you for your feedback. Our Smokey Joe Premium is designed as a solution to tailgating, camping, and portable grilling in general. By placing the bowl dampers higher upon the bowl, the risk of having hot ashes, coals, or cinders escape from the bowl is minimized. This makes it perfectly suited for a situation like having the grill at a campground, in a parking lot, or other areas where using a portable grill might be desired. You may easily close the vents on the side, lock the lid, and once the grill is cool, it’ll be safe to take travel with. We will reach out via email to check if there are any questions we can help you with your new grill. Thanks!

Bought this a month ago for our RV was disappointed in its performance because it wouldn't draft and get hot very well because of the air vents being on the side instead of on the bottom like they have always been.

Look for the bottom vents and ash pan design
This unit as pictured has vents on the side and no ash pan below. But I just bought a Smokey Joe at a retailer and this Smokey Joe's design features the "old" style with bottom vents/damper and an ash pan that attaches to the tripod legs with bolt and wingnut. My unit has no cover retainer. For the money I think this is a high-quality product and great value for the money. Grates, bowl and cover all heavy duty and perfectly finished on my unit. (Have had several of these over the years and never a problem.) However, I would read those low reviews that mostly complain about the side-vent design and take that into consideration. The bottom vent design works great, in my opinion. Weber, did I in fact get an old model or did you cease the side vents in favor of bottom updraft vents? Thank you.

Grilling
I was disappointed in the quality of the grill. While assembling paint came off of the side. Luckily it is hidden by the side bracket. I have had the larger Weber grills for over 20 years and always loved them.

Initial high hopes, quickly dashed
This grill was bought specifically to use while camping, and I used it almost every day of a recent trip. Firstly, the assembly was easy, and initial quality seemed good. That impression quickly wore off when I attempted to cook 2 porterhouse steaks that fit perfectly on the 14" cooking grid. I used my Weber chimney to light the coals, and when the top ones were starting to get gray, I dumped the red hot coals and started to cook. I noted right away that the cooking grid didn't fit properly on the lip of the grill. If it was 1/4" more in diameter or the grill 1/4" less, it would have been better. I put on the lid and opened all the vents 100%. I would have expected to turn the 1" thick steaks after about 5 minutes, but when I did, I noted a real lack of heat, and the steaks hadn't seared at all. I also noted that the coals were no longer red. All told I needed to add a 2nd layer to get the coals closer to the cooking grid. I needed to fan the coals quite a bit in order to get the top layer to light, but once I did, I was able to put the cooking grid back on. My total cook time, including waiting for the additional charcoal (the K brand) to get up to temperature was almost 45 minutes. I experienced the same problem when cooking a split chicken and hamburgers. Since hot dogs only need a couple of minutes, those were OK until the coals were choked from not enough oxygen. I now regret buying this grill, and it's the first Weber product that I've been unhappy with. If it wasn't used, I would have boxed it up and sent it back.

Thank you for your honest feedback. We're sorry to hear that you had some heat control issues on your new Smokey Joe. Your satisfaction is very important to us. It's crucial to ensure that your grates are not overloaded, as air flow can be blocked and cause the coals to go out if there is too much food on the grate at one time. We hope that your next cook will be more successful. If you are still having issues, please contact our support team so we can help. Thanks again and happy grilling!
