The surface area for the tab which will trip the trap is very large and much more effective than typical traps. I caught one rat already, but the most important thing you should do is to seal off any access points. The rats shouldn't have a way to get inside in the first place. These should really only be needed until the area is completely sealed off.

The traps are easy to set & do work for rats, just not so much for mice.

I had one trap that broke within 24 hours. The problem is the yellow plastic expanded trigger breaks very easily and slides off the pin it is attached to. It especially chips and breaks easily, as evidenced on two other traps already after 2 wks, during cold weather. It would be a great trap if the trigger was of a different material and more durable. I would love to be compensated for the traps that broke but don't know how to go about doing it.

Victor used to make a good trap but they did something very wrong with this "expanded trigger" model. The trap is extremely hard to set and very sensitive. It even goes off when just sitting there after being set. After trying 4 of them I came to the conclusion I was not the problem. Victor has either a design or manufacturing problem with this style. I'll try one of there metal trigger traps and hope it is better - can't be much worse.

I have a "smart" rat that is able to eat the bait without triggering the trap. Additionally, it can trigger the trap without getting caught. With the exception of this one particular rat I have had good success with Victor traps. I was not happy having to buy a 12-pack when I needed only one or two.

So unfortunate that Victor is making these with a plastic lever now. What a scam to get you to buy more. The plastic only lasts for one use. I have only been able to use one of these twice out of the 5 I bought. If they don't go back to the original design I will never buy Victor brand again.

There has never been a better rat trap built. I have rats eating my chickens food. Been killing many rats now with these great traps. I like the wider trigger because I use peanut butter and can spread it on generously with a little chicken scratch added on. The smaller one doesnt hole much.

The Victor Professional traps are the best. Easy to set.

I like the versatility of this trap. You can adjust the trigger sensitivity of the large platform that the rat leans on to trigger the trap. I caught 4 rats that were ravaging the newly planted seedlings in my garden and can now not have to cover the garden at night. I use nut butter to bait the trap and bait it from the lower side of the trigger platform so only a little of the bait is exposed on the top of the platform. This way the rat needs to do some work to get the bait. I have used other type of traps. The sticky traps were useless for rats and traps with small triggers were difficult to set. This trap is a little more expensive, but well worth the extra money. After all they are called "professional" traps.

Works great on mice, rats, even ground squirrels with a little bit of modifying! Only thing is, because of how hard-hitting the kill bar is, the u-nails holding the bar down usually pull out after the tenth catch or so. Easy fix with a drill and a few screws, but it would be nice if those were reinforced a little better. 4/5 stars from me:)

These traps do an excellent job, I prefer the ones with the yellow plate, they don't go off so easy. You can adjust the tension by lowering or raising the yellow plate I use peanut butter and sometimes it's gone and the trap is still set, so I refill and the rat eventually get caught. maybe adjust the tension. They last a long time and I have also caught 4 rattlesnakes in them. I use them for packrats.

Living in the high desert there is a problem with squirrels clearing out our fruit orchards, and vegetable gardens. These traps work great. It keeps them at bay away for the most part.
