This plane was perfect for small tasks like chamfering an edge or fine tuning a fit. It was easy to flatten and hone the blade.

Plane has several ways to adjust to get exactly the cut you need. Well made, should last. Good value.

Nice looking plane, but poor machining. The exit angle of the blade was not parallel to the surface (left-hand side of the blade has a steeper angle than the right hand side). Fixed somewhat by filing the area near the opening. However, the blade still takes more material from the left-hand side Than from the right-hand side. Would not recommend.

Good little plane. Blade was installed upside down. Once I put blade the proper way, it started working perfectly.

The sole was far from flat. I've already spent a couple of hours on a 400 grit diamond stone. Looks like several more hours to remove a deep hollow. Not sure the sides will ever be perpendicular to the sole. Blade was fine, honed easily. Adjusting will take some practice. The plane is comfortable and heavy enough. The throat adjustment works well.

unless you plan on doing major adjustments to this product before it could ever be used go ahead and save your money. The sole is not level and will require work, its difficult to get the blade even close to level laterally even with all the adjustments, and the edge where the blade exits will need to be filed down. maybe I got a defective unit but either way i'm extremely disappointed! save yourself the trouble and buy a better quality product from someone else.

Casting very bad had to grind sides and bottom plate then sand it to get a semi smooth finish this is a insult to the Stanley brand disappointment but I fixed to a degree of good .

I looked everywhere for this planer locally, only to find it in my local old time independently owned hardware store. It seems to me that this planer gets some poor revues. I’m a carpenter with more than a few years behind me. This low angle planer is perfectly functional for every need I have. It adjusts nicely, and cuts with ease. Apparently the reviewers that I’ve read are most particular, or just don’t know how to use this tool. There are no issues with this tool. It is a workhorse, and I’m happy to have it.

When I received it the bottom was not flat so had to spend some time sanding it flat. Nice plane and works good now that the bottom is smooth and flat.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had this plane for about 4 years now and it’s always in the pouch on my tool belt. I always need it to true up an edge or give something a small chamfer. Great for back beveling also.

like most of the Stanley planes these days the finish on the gray iron is to course and you need to go through the grits in order to flatten and smooth the sole. The adjustable throat needed to be tuned with a file to make it work smoothly. and of course the iron need flattened and honed. after all of this it worked great. my biggest recommendation is not to be scared of going heavy on the course grits and work through to the lighter ones. this will save a lot of time. it took me about 45min start to finish.

I bought this about a year and a half ago. when I got it, it was bad. the throat didn't close, and was really stiff and grindy. the blade wasn't sharp. It was all around bad. I literally had totally rusted Stanley's (60 1/2s from the 90s or something much older) that needed LESS work. I spent about 3 hours on this plane in total. I had to derust it after sitting for that entire time, then sand and file to get the throat and other moving parts moving. That being said, after I was done, this plane looks gorgeous and works REALLY well. I mean, it cuts a chamfer on plywood with little tear out. I would recommend you buy this IF you don't mind sharpening AND doing restoration level work to it. then it will be a 5 star tool. If you just expect it to be done for you, it ain't and you will give this a 2 star. Unfortunately this isn't a buy it the minute you need it tool. But it IS worth it to get tool with this potential at this price point.

I think the quality is good in general. You need spend quite bit of time effort to flatten and polish the sole and side. Then it looks beautiful. The blade chips easily. The rest build is solid. One aspect I don’t like is the size, too narrow for my medium sized hand to grab firmly. 7 inch model feels right in size.

The bedding angle of the blade was very poor. The mouth was incorrectly ground necessitating very tedious work with a warding file to grind it to a useable surface.

You can never go wrong with Stanley.

Well built and works as advertised. Worth the money. Nice little go to Block Plane.

Plane was received in the specified timeframe. The unit was very sharp right out of the box. Disassembled the unit to clean out all of the shipping preservative and then adjusted the unit per the included instructions. When I attempted the first cut, I didn't think that the unit cut at all and was about to adjust the blade some more when I discovered that the plane was full of wood shavings. Very pleased. This is the most effortless plane I have ever owned and I will buy Stanley again.

Plane is defective, you can't hold the blade in place.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have had this plane now for about 8 years and it is the one I reach for most often. The weight is good and it fits in my hand nicely making it easy to use. The down side is that the blade does seem to be a bit on the soft side and tends to wear in the middle causing me to have to hone it flat quite often, but in spite of that it an overall good plane for the money.

It took a bit of time to tune it and it's still a bit tricky to adjust the blade, but its still a good tool for the price

Been using this for months now with no hassle what so ever if your a carpenter you will get along with adjusting with ease don’t listen to the diy review because he doesn’t know how it works he gave it a 2 star this is a 5 star product that is used day to day by myself a professional finish carpenter

Works very well for what I wanted

For occasional use, this Stanley low angle block plain is a decent tool, but if you want a high quality, lifetime block plane that is not only capable of doing beautiful cabinetry work, but is an excellent value as well, then I would suggest a WoodRiver low angle block plane instead.

it would or could be a nice plane. It is not designed for a beginner or for some one that has used a plane only a few times. Way to complicated, with too many bits to adjust just to adjust the blade.

From the other reviews, I knew that I would have to do some work to get the sole flat. Well it took many hours with 100 grit. I know 60 grit would have been faster but I didn't have any. Just know if you buy this model you better have lots of patience and spare time to work on the sole flattening. Otherwise it's a pretty good block plane.
