I like this tool for drywall and bondo, and I understand that they need to use a brittle metal to maintain the sharp "cheese grater" edges but there is a fine line between effective and durable. I hope they find that balance soon because its a great idea.

Extremely brittle. Broke the first one using it normally. Broke a second one installing it. Very brittle.

Hi this blade broke immediately, after a few light strokes on plywood. I installed the blade on a stanley brand tool, (296 surform) tightened the screw firmly but not so as to break the blade. When used, the blade snapped right next to weld at the front of the blade, where the sharp part of the blade attaches to the hook that holds it into the tool. Based on my work in a metal shop it looks like the weld was done too hot and that weakened the blade, but this is only a guess. I should say that I previously had a blade on this tool for years, using it occasionally, used the previous blade until it was completely blunt and worn out. There is no indication on the packaging as to how tight to tighten the mounting screw at the front of the tool. Is that the problem, or is it that the blade is not tempered correctly as I guess is the case? This is frustrating, since I've had good previous experience with surform tools for 40 years, and I took the trouble to make sure I was buying a stanley branded replacement blade just to avoid this sort of thing. It broke soon as I tried to Put it on so didn’t get a chance to use it the end piece just snapped right off it’s a shame my door remains slightly too big to close fully letting all the heat out till I am able to sand it down by hand eventually when I have the time

Super brittle file. Snapped after two strokes. It popped off the handle immediately. I was able to snap it in pieces with my fingers it was so brittle. I bought a second one and it did the same thing.

The metal is not dense enough to to withstand the the tightening pressure required to stabilize on tool so that it won’t move around in use, resulting in breaking. It’s a no bueno from mechanical

Fits right. Installation was quick. But, the quality seems lower than the one it replaced. Only time will tell if stays sharp and lasts.

Easy to change blades, priced right, the tool does a great job that it was designed to do. So much better than a file and cheaper than a plainer, easier to use as well.

Old School Technology is still usefull today. YOung folks dont know how helpful that planers and rasps can be when we're faced with problems with simple wood projects. This replacement for the rasp handle does a lot of what a planer does without the finicky adjustments and blade sharpening of a plane.

I plan to return the product since when installing it and trying to scratch the material, it broke immediately, I do not recommend it

Trash. It has a defect in the weld and broke. Second one, same failure. Not again.

Dangerous! I wasn't aware the replacement had a serated side edge, which projects out the side of the handle. This is extremely hazardous when trying to hold the surform while using.

Broke almost immediately. Was a much better quality tool when I bought one 20 years ago. Will be returning this item.

Used it for shaving foam. Worked great.

Have been using these for a long time and they are great. I misplacedy old one and bought a new one This one failed after several minutes of use as the tabs broke off. Returned and bought another one and working as expected

It was very fragile. It was broken into three parts by the time I completed my job of fixing my backyard storm door. Also, it came off from the plain. This deserves negative star and I am not recommending to buy this.

If you have the base holder then you must get the Surform to help you with your drywall I found it to be much faster and convenient when your working large jobs~
