The product arrived with a hole in the bag so the product was all over the place and had been exposed to moisture which made it clump and even after doing my best to de-clump before spreading the moisture ridden fertilizer kept getting stuck in the new spreader.

A bit disappointed
Starting with bare ground, I did an A-1 prep job, tilling the soil, then adding a new topsoil layer and raking smooth, then adding Lawn starter fertilizer, then the Turf Builder Starter seed, setting the spreader according to bag for a 'new lawn' (it laid the seed down pretty heavy). I raked the top to lightly cover the fertilizer and seed, then watered twice daily. It's been 2 weeks, and the new grass is an inch or so tall. My disappointment is the new grass "coverage" seems very thin, spaced pretty far apart, compared to how heavy the seed was put down. It seems like only half the seeds germinated, despite almost ideal conditions. I expected better from Scott's.

Scotts Turf Builder Starter Food For New Grass is simply a fertilizer product and includes no seed in the bag. It does not help seed to germinate; it fertilizes the grass after it has germinated. We recommend watering 1-2 times per day to keep the seeds moist until seed germinates and then watering about 1-2 times per week as needed. Other causes for poor seed germination include a weed control used prior to seeding (i.e. a crabgrass preventer) or Improper temperatures.

It works!
I put this product down about a week ago. When I purchased it I didn't purchase enough and could only do half of the back yard. You can see the difference between the treated and untreated parts of the lawn. It works!

Killed My Sod Instanty!!!
I bought this along with Scott’s bluegrass seed to fill in the seams of my brand new sodded lawn. Not only did this not improve the seed but it KILLED the sod where it was applied! I was ready to be angry at the sod farm but instead am livid at Scott’s. I will not be buying any more scotts products and will be demanding a refund for all the seed and fertilizer!!

I don’t know what happened, but used this coz I followed scotts advice when you plant new Bermuda grass seeds. I used it few times already for 6 weeks, but nothing is happening. There’s more weeds than Bermuda too.

The starter fertilizer was purchased to apply to some new sod that was laid in the yard recently. It was easy to apply. I needed to get a quick application prior to the growing season. The grass is looking good, and I wanted to make sure that I applied the fertilizer so that I could get it going before the growing season so that I could get the grass established. It is still early in the growth season, so I didn't expect to see quick results.

Incredible
We used this on our yard in mid September when we aerated and seeded our yard. Our grass currently looks incredible! Our neighbors grass is starting to turn brown and ours in greener than ever. It is so thick and lush. We were so impressed that yesterday we but down Scott’s Winterguard Weed & Feed. So excited to see how that works - especially since chickweed started to creep in a few weeks ago!

Success so far...
I combined the Awesome and Tough Grass Seeds, applied on August 30, 2020 and along with a combination of the Scotts Starter fertilizer and Scott Turf Builder Root-Trients, fertilizing August 30, September 13 and September 27, 2020; using less than the recommended amount of fertilizer resulting in no burns; photo on the left August 30, 2020 and photo on the right October 12, 2020.
The true test will be next year summer to see if this turf will hold up.

Not too shabby...
I put down Scott’s grub control the same day I put down Scott’s starter fertilizer. I am currently growing grass in my back yard and thought why not try to spruce up the front yard. I watered every morning for over 2 weeks. I am noticing greener grass even on the sod on my devil strip. This summer in Ohio we had multiple days with 90 degree days and I was able to grow grass. I gave this a 4/5 because honestly, it didn’t work fast enough in the heat and I had to water it for a few weeks.

Get Ready To Mow
Maryland had an excessive amount of rain in 2017-2018 which led to a lot of soil damage and grass damage. My usual fall planting with soil amendments worked OK but in Maryland you get used to planting seed every fall. I saw Scott's Turf Builder Starter for new grass and gave it a try in the fall of 2018. Results were good but winter set in and growth stopped. I then went out on a limb and tried a winter sowing along with an application of Scott's Starter food. I didn't expect much of a success rate but as soon as Spring showed up, my grass growth exploded. Grass grew where I thought is was impossible and grew it did. I don't know what Scott's secret is but this stuff works, almost too good. I usually mow once a week but now have been mowing twice a week. Expensive but it sure delivers.

Scott's starter fertilizer got my sod off to a great start, within a week of placing the sod, it was very healthy, deep green, and growing quickly. I wouldn't consider investing the effort into a new lawn without using Scotts to ensure a great start.

Great product
My lawn was plagued with crab grass for a long time. I didn't know much about reseeding. So I did something about it. I ripped up the crab grass, aerated the turf applied scotts turf builder starter and fertilizer in October of 2015. the winter storm was brutal on my lawn, it got kind of dry. I reseed the lawn and today the lawn is 100% lawn. give and take a couple of weeds, but not crab grass. this product help me get started and fertilized the lawn as well. I have a small area to do as well along the curb. I'm buying this product again. thanks scotts.

Excellent Product. A must for new seed
I've used this product after seeding 16K sqft of Fescue/KBG mix. Definitely a must (after) the seedlings sprout.if you want to properly establish new seed or sodded lawn. Doesn't burn and has finer particles that makes coverage easier. Nice blend of quality nitrogen and good quantity of urea N.
Night n' day difference in the lawn in a couple of weeks. It's a tad more expensive which I didn't like, but again, thats what it takes to establish a nicer lawn. Somethings you can't go cheap on and this is one of those.
