A Great Reel Mower for the Price
This mower does a decent job and was easy to put together and is easy to use. It works well on my variable grade lawn for general care. It does have trouble with larger crab grass patches and will get stuck on every stick, but it's easy to clear and I can't complain about the value for the money and not having to pay for gas.

Nice mower for my tiny yard
Bought and used this mower today. I was surprised by how easy it was to push. It is as easy to push as a gas mower. I did experience some jams due to twigs, but I have no trees, so it was a minimal problem. It is hard to mow very close to walls and such since the wheels are completely outside the mower blade, but I had to weed eat anyway. I am very pleased with the mower.

Replacement parts?
Love the mower - but where do I get replacement parts? I ran over the small wheel with my truck and can't figure out where / how to get a replacement.

(South Texas) Does a very good job on Tiff 419 & Raleigh St. Augustine
It does jam in instances where the grass is too thick/tall or if small twigs are on the landscape. My landscape is a bit uneven and parts are on a bit of an incline. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the quality and performance of the Scotts 20 in. Classic Reel Mower.

Hardly worth the effort to setup
As others have pointed out, the catcher is utterly worthless. I rigged some extra wire support so the catcher support rods would stop hitting the blades, but it is a workaround at best. I have even Marathon grass that should not be any sort of challenge to cut at all, yet this mower manages to really do a mediocre job even under almost ideal circumstances. When the Chinese manufacture is coupled with the typical "lean engineered" and over "six-sigma'd" material cost cutting, the result is all too typical of what we see in the big-box stores for many of our products. I'll be happy to pay more when I can find something with some basic quality. This mower is a short term throw-away type of purchase, and as such, it is not worth hauling home. Land fill.

      poor
I found this mower did a poor job. Even on the lowest setting, it missed cutting a large portion of the grass & the bag kept falling off.

      Not for lawns with weeds!
I liked the concept of this mower. I've always wanted to try one. It was very easy to put together and easy to use. However, it doesn't cut weeds at all. I imagine this would be good for a 50 sq ft lawn with no weeds. Anything bigger than that and you should go with a power mower, especially if your yard has weeds. Great concept, but definitely can't do the job a power mower can do.

      simple can be better
I have had my scotts classic reel mower for at least seven years with excellent service. This mower has a 20 inch cut which is the same as many power mowers. The cutting height has two adjustable wheels that are easy to adjust just the push of a small handle on each wheel. These small wheels make this mower much easier to push than other reel mowers that I have used before, this mower cuts very well allmost like a power mower at times. My scotts classic is very light and small compared to a power mower, and I can store this mower it seems like almost anywhere A reel mower has a lot of advantages over a gas mower being no smog, or gas spills, and or oil spills. A reel mower is very quiet so you can hear if their is thunder around, or other things you need to hear. With a reel mower you have so much more convenience ,no expensive tuneups or oil changes and no expensive gas to buy or smell. But the biggest advantage that is often overlooked is safety of operation. Theres no throwing rocks, the blade does not cut off feet or fingers becouse this blade stops ,for example if you run over a very small stick. Which do you perfer a lawn mower with no pollution, that saves you a lot of money, with no tuneups no ,oilchanges and no gas. Also a lawn mower that is very safe to use. So in conclusion this is a great mower I would absolutely recomend to anyone to purchase .

Fairly easy to push and does pretty good job cutting as long as grass is mowed twice a week
With the grass growing quickly, I have to mow twice a week or it gets too tall to cut without having to rake. The basket is worthless. Grass catches at the front lip and very little goes into the basket. It is easier to make a higher cut and then go back with a slightly lower cut. As long as you keep up with regular cutting, it does a nice job.

      short manicured yard only
We were trying to stay away from the pump and go green; purchased the Scotts 20 in. Classic Reel Mower and setup was easy. It was very good at cutting the short grass in the court yard but once we went into the yard itself it would spot cut. It would not cut anything thick or thin over 4-6 inches. I would recommend only for a already short manicured yard anything other than that and its not going to do the job.

Why did I wait so long!
I have a 7 yr old 10.5hp mower with a 33" wide cut and purchased this as a stop gap. Unfortunately it only takes my 10 more minutes to mow my half an acre yard and I could do this at 5:30am and not wake the neighbors. As a kid I remembering using a reel mower and it being difficult, well this mower is very easy to use even with a 10% grade lawn. This is my new lawn mower.

Foam handle tears during first use
I have a very small lawn. The grass was not long or wet and after using for 15 minutes, I noticed the foam handle was ripping. I returned the product, they gave me a new one, and the same thing happened. Also, the paint on the blades has worn off after one use.If the blades do not stay sharp for a few years, which they claim they will, I will be contacting manufacturer to complain.

      Works great!
As a first time home-owner, and someone that loves to think green, I decided to get this reel mower. My friends laughed at the idea, but I sure didn't. I have no problem taking the green route in life. And this mower hasn't changed that. Installation was easy. Only took 5-10 minutes. I have a pretty big yard, but it's nothing this mower can't cut down! It's got a lot of surprising power just with a little push. It did miss the bigger weeds in the yard, but I went back later and just clipped them with clippers. It's amazing to see something so simple cut down lines of grass like a knife in butter. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and neighbors, and I'm hoping they will one day take the chance to convert green!

      Great Mower.
The lawnmower was very easy to assemble. It rolls easily and cuts cleanly. It the lawn is a little long it takes 2 times to get a good cut, but after that, it is quick and easy to mow the lawn. It is also easy to adjust the blades to different heights. it is also very quiet. No noisy motor. I would recommend this to anyone who does not want to use an expensive and noisy gas mower.

      Excellent mower
This mower is great, I wish I knew about it sooner. It is easy to use and requires no fuel! It does not cut long grass, but this was expected.

Blades and reel ok, but handle not strong enough; it will break with continued use. Don't waste your money.

        Did the job
I have a very big yard with uneven lawn. This is my first time ever using a reel mower. My family laughed at me when I said I wanted one. I started to think maybe they are right and it will be way too much work. I didn't find it to be any worse than a gas mower really. I liked that I could stop and not have to restart a motor to get going again. I was very impressed with the first time use. We'll see how it goes with the upkeep etc.

        Does exactly what I expected
This mower works perfect. It cuts nicely, and is very easy to push. It had the widest cutting path for it's pricepoint also. It is a pretty basic design. It only took me about 10 mins to assemble it. It cuts grass and weeds easily. Like all push mowers, it won't cut anything longer than 5-6". You might need to go over your yard with a weed whacker after the first mow with this mower. But after that it will cut any soft stemmed plants under 6" tall with ease. If you like being out in the yard while the weather is still not too hot, you will love using this mower 2-3 times a week.

Good Mower, Great Customer Service from Company
If you have a smaller yard and will mow once a week or so, this is the mower for you. Especially if you like a clean cut and want to go green. Reel mowers are not for you if you let your lawn get really long or there are tall weeds in your yard. I have owned this mower for about a year or so and had no issues until a couple weeks ago when the handle broke. I called the 1-800 number on the manual and they are shipping me a new one free. I would definitely recommend this mower if you want an environmentally friendly, relatively cheap way to mow your lawn that I personally think makes it look better than a gas mower...

Great mower that wont wake up the neighbours
This mower is a great little rig that is quiet and easy to maintain. It doesnt cut every single blade of grass though. If you walk on the grass and have any grass laying down it wont cut that. I tend to leave my lawn grow a little long before I cut it so it takes a bit of muscle to get it through. The grass catcher does not work at all. Since I leave the grass long before cutting this means I have to rake afterwords. I have been meaning to stay on top of the lawn and cut it more often like the others have said, but who has the time. With all the faults of the results this mower has I am still recommending for someone to buy it. It is relaxing to mow as there is no noise. I am sure the neighbors are laughing but who cares. There are lots of videos on youtube on how to maintain the mower and fix it if it breaks. The warranty is not bad but it just covers parts I believe. So if something breaks you have to take apart the mower and send the part back. And they will send you a new one. Also you can order parts for it through the mail. Give it a try, you might like it.

          Great Mower, Lasted 5 years
I bought this mower in 2006 after some research. I liked that it was 20" wide so I can cut my lawn quickly. Every review about bagged reel mowers said they were useless, so I wasn't worried about bagging. I've used this to cut my lawn every 1-2 weeks in the spring->fall months for 5 years and it has performed great with minimal maintenance. I have not had to sharpen the blades, just oiled them in the beginning of the season. In the 4th year, after the manufacturer warranty ran out, the right side of the drive system stopped working, so for the past year I've had to push with leverage on the left side. My lawn is small, so not a big deal. Today, the left side drive broke, the inner gears are plastic, so there's only so much use you can get out of the mower. I'm on my way out to get another one. Great mower, $140 for 5 years, no maintenance works for me! :)

            Easy to use
I got this mower because I needed a mower with maximum cutting height and the 3" setting of this mower was the highest I could find in any type of mower. Assembly was fairly easy. The instructions are not the greatest, but it's not hard to figure out. I've never used a reel mower so I didn't know how easy or hard it would be to push. It was much easier than I expected. It almost feels like the rear wheels are providing some support. In taller grass, pushing becomes difficult...the mower stops. I found that it's best to use short back-and-forth movements to get through these tough spots. I also noticed that there is this type of weed...very tall and thin that the mower cannot get. The front part of the mower bends the weed so the blades never hit it. The weed pops up after the mower runs over it. This mower is lightweight, easy to use and obviously doesn't use gas or pollute the air. It's a little louder than I expected, but nowhere near as loud as a gas mower. It's great for small lawns, but may not work on tall weeds.

            Excellent mower
Great for saving gas, your ears, and your relationship with your neighbors. I love how nice the lawn looks after it's cut (much cleaner cut than an gas-powered push mower). It's great to be able to mow the lawn even early in the morning or late at night without disturbing my wife, the baby, or the neighbors.

Great mower, even for a large lot!
I bought this mower today, and could not stop cutting! I have a rather large lot, where I cut around 2.5 acres. I am waiting for a new lawn tractor to arrive that I ordered last week which will take another week to come in. I bought this reel mower to trim around trees and difficult to reach areas. I had it out of the box and assembled within 10 minutes. I gave it a test drive, and found it so easy to use, I could not stop cutting! I ended up cutting around 2 acres with it and the only reason I did not keep going is I ran out of daylight. It is extremely easy to use, and does a great job. As some other reviewers indicated, it does not cut through crab grass very easily, but it took me another quick swipe or two to take care of this. I like this mower so much, I am considering canceling my lawn tractor order.

                20" Scotts Reel Mower
Easy to assemble - Mowing the lawn in 15 minutes! Very light and easy to maneuver. We have a small inner city lot in Calgary and it's perfect for the small lot that doesn't require a gas lawn mower. The key advantage to this mower is the flexible height adjustment (up to 3") I would highly recommend this model if you're considering a push mower.

                  Prepare to sweat
I would not recommend this mower for someone who is used to a self propelled mower and expects to exert little force. This mower will require you to exert a bit of force. If you regularly mow your lawn every few days this is right for you but if you expect to be able to cut 2 inches of length off your lawn then go with a gas mower.

                    Mixed Reviews
We bought this mower to be green in May of 2008. We live on a city lot in MN so our mower doesnt get too much use most of the year. We really LOVED this mower because of how quiet it is. We really enjoyed feeling green while keeping our lawn looking nice. Up until today our only complaints were that it didnt mow down crabgrass, but our electric weedwacker took care of that so it wasnt a big deal. But now we have bigger complaints. The user who said the handle was flimsey was not exaggerating. Our handle snapped into two parts while mowing this afternoon! We take very good care of our belongings and clearly it has not been overused. I am attempting to contact Scotts to get a new handle, but am VERY disappointed. I have neighbors who have the old reel mowers and they are in very good shape. Its a shame to have only used the mower for nearly 2 seasons and to have it broken already... I guess I will find out how their customer service works!

                      Works well enough
I have this clipper and a walk-behind motor mower. In the past month, I've used this clipper almost exclusively. As long as you keep up with the height of the weeds, it works fine. I actually today tried to use the motor one, worried I wasn't using it enough - and it wouldn't start. I whipped this product out again and did a fine job. I've been pleasantly surprised.

                        Reel mower is it 4 u ?
My wife and I have a home on a small lot. The lot is 80' wide and 130' deep give or take. The Scott's mower was purchased when gas went to $4 a gal! Gas has since went down as we all know and we still use this mower. The grenn effect was a bigger deal than the cost of gas. The thing you must understand this is like a small work out compared to a self propeled mower! The way we manage and enjoy our mower is you mow twice a week! This is a must! If you try as we did (at first) to do the once a week mow , you will hate it! ( NE Texas, Burmuda) and go back to the smog mower. This mower makes are yard look like the golf course, but you have to push twice a week. There are times I dont look foward to the mow ( aftrer 3 days of rain) the mind set needs and has to be ...its a lite work out!
