OK in the right spot
If you have a squared off hole it works just fine and had not come up after a year. Do not use if you have a dimple or a low spot you want to fill up, It does not have great adhesion and started to come up after a year

Does not work!
I used this product to patch some large cracks in my driveway. I carefully prepped the cracks, removed plants and soil, filled with sand, then packed this stuff in. I pounded it in tight according to directions. Once we drove cars over it, loose stones started coming out. I did the job during the summer. The following spring, the cracks had so many weeds sprouting it looked like I planted a garden in the cracks instead of using this product. Quite simply, it did not work and was a huge waste of a couple of hot, exhausting days of work.

Absolutely awful
I had previously bought a few bags of that "Green Patch" brand cold patch that sits along side this Sakrete cold patch in my local Home Depot - the 'Green.." product worked so well that I went back today to get some more - sadly, they were sold out, so I bought 6 bags of this Sakrete stuff instead - the bag says it's made from 95% recycled materials - they're not kidding - when I dumped the first (and only) bag onto my driveway I noticed some brownish particulate that resembled small wood chips and there were a few pieces of shredded plastic as well - the consistency of the product was very 'inconsistent '- the size of the particles varied from clumps that needed to be broken apart ( if indeed this product worked) to a loose soil-like consistency - upon attempts to tamp the stuff, it wouldn't compact and adhere properly - unhappy with this bag, I decided to sweep it around and let it fill whatever cracks it landed in - I decided to return the rest of the bags - Home Depot refunded the price of 5 bags but wouldn't refund the price of the opened one (ok) - after a bit of rain, the product washed down my driveway and made a mess - the Green Patch brand held strong - This Sakete U.S. cold patch reminds me of the less than adequate topsoil the Depot has been selling this year - maybe they're running out of resources -

worst cold patch
There was a point in time where home depot used to sell a decent quality cold patch. The last year or two they changed the product and it is just not the same. The cold patch does not harden like it supposed to and it just stays soft. Eventually the entire repaired area comes apart usually sooner than later. Once it rains forget it. Do not not buy this product its a total waste of money.

Very Poor Product - Else I got a bad unit
I purchased the 50 lb. U.S. Cold Patch to fill some depressions on my asphalt surfaced drive way last summer. A very dissappointing experience. The summary is that, the product (black stones) will not bond together. The loose stones came apart in a few days. The product looked liked stones just painted with black paint. Poor adhesion/bonding. Sometimes I wonder if Home Depot quality tests some of these products before selling them. Could be a I got a defective product. BTW, I read and as per the instructions on a warm 70% week in MD.

    Terrible
It doesn't harden, it's like dirt. Obviously it was dreamed up by an envirogreeny. use the stuff with an oily texture to it. works much better. I question anyone who thinks this stuff works well.

Simply Worthless, Just colored gravel and sand.
I bought a bag of this cold patch and it was easy to fill a hole and pack down. This is just colored gravel and sand mix. I could easily dig and sweep is out 1 week later when I wend to Lowes and bought a bag of "QPR 50Lb Qpr Permanent Asphalt Repair". The QPR is messy and has a tar like substance that eventually hardens to make a permanent repair. Do not buy this U.S. cold patch unless you need a colored gravel compacted surface.

    Consistent With Product Description
Have been using "do it yourself" driveway maintenance products for nearly 30 years. My job required 12 sacks (50 lb. wt.) of U.S. Cold Patch. Use this one according to directions: clean the receiving surface, open the plastic bag, spread well with the flat side of a bow rake (feathering out the edges), I started the compaction with a hand held plate tamper (watch out for material sticking to the plate surface, clean by scraping with the flat side of the bow rake), I rolled over the asphalt with the driver side front tire of my SUV 1-2 times with a helper guiding me from curbside. For you asphalt paving aficionados, you can refine your job by fine feathering the edges with Latexite Trowel Patch and sealing the whole job (I would wait at least 1 month) with a quality driverway sealer. Hope this was helpful.

    Highly Disappointed
Am I asking for too much? I had an area in my driveway where the asphalt was breaking up into several pieces that was about 4'x6' and about 2 inches deep that was becoming ugly. The more I drove over it, the worse it became so I knew I had to do something. Most of the reviews of this product seemed pretty promising, so I gave it a go. I cleaned out all the loose debris, swept it until I had a solid base, then applied as directed. I tamped it down with a tamper, then drove over it several times, watching my tires as I did until I had covered the entire area several times until it was compacted and smooth. But the results weren't what I expected: it didn't settle hard like I expected it would and is more like loose sand or gravel. I can even push it down with my finger and it leaves indentations. Maybe it needs more time?

    A superb product
I've put down over 150 bags on our private road, everything from potholes to worn out areas. Here's how I do it: sweep out the worn area or clean the pothole of loose rock and gravel. Pour the patch onto the area. Using a metal bow rake, smooth it out and tap it to get any lumps out and make it even in height. Feather the edges well by tapping with the rake. For potholes, extend it out a bit beyond the edge of the hole and leave it a little higher in the center. Then, drive back and forth over it slowly a few times with the left front and rear tire. Roll your window down and stick your head out the window to see where you're rolling. I recommend ordinary passenger tires, not knobby truck tires. Holds up perfectly. The bags remain soft in any temperature, so there's no need to pre-warm them, even in the winter. Can't say enough good things about this product. It's a real blessing. I'll be using it as long as I'm alive.

This is garbage. You might as well use gravel
I bought 4 bags and this has no adhesion to itself. It loves to stick to the stamper though. Gravel would have done just as good a job.

        Works Great
I am very happy with this product. I debated over the patch that does not need heat that is more expensive, however this did the trick. I did use a torch and followed the instructions. I heated then compacted layer at a time. It filled in the hole and made a smooth finish that does not chip off or shed gravel. I would use this again!

          J U N K
After reading the reviews of the various asphalt patch product on this site, I decided to give it a go. I had used 2 others sold here and been reasonably happy with them, but this Cold Patch sounded terrific. Bought 3 bags. Where to start? The product has NO adhesion, either to itself (see how it's loose in the bag?) or to the asphalt base you're putting it on. I tried compacting it with a large metal plate compactor, hoping this would make it stick, both to itself as well as to the base of the birdbath depressions I was putting it in. Each pound of the compactor just threw up bits of the material and broke it off the edges. Tried a 2# sledge hammer. Same problem. The sledge just made dents in the material, displacing it laterally rather than actually compacting it. When 'finished', I could just lift it off the edge of the depression with my finger. And my leaf blower blows the material off its own surface, making it rough and irregular. It's NOT waterproof! No, the packaging doesn't tell you that. But I contacted the company and they confirm that it is NOT waterproof; you have to apply a sealer to make it waterproof. So I suspect that when I get a decent rain all my patches are going to just float off their base. Contacted the company. They told me it wasn't waterproof. But when I asked them again, 3 times, whether I had a bad batch of product or if they had any suggestions as to how I might install it so that it actually worked as advertised, I got NO response. Took 2 of the bags back. Thanks for the GREAT, EASY return policy, Home Depot! Try something that sticks to itself. I've been happy with the Latex-ite Super Patch as well as the Sakrete yellow/black bag blacktop patch. The latter seems to compact better, with the mineral pieces breaking up, compacting more easily and flying away less than the Latex-ite. But this cold patch? J U N K

          Easy to use
Very easy to use...just spread it out and drive over to pack it down. Used it on a parking lot at a convenience store so alot of cars will be helping to pack it down as they come in and out. It's been down a couple of weeks now and it's working great.

          Easy pothole fix
The street in front of our house had a few potholes that were very annoying for everyone. The city comes by about once a year and fixes the potholes. We needed a solution that was more frequent so we looked for an easy solution that would last a long time. We heard about U.S. Cold Patch through friends who had used it to repair the parking lot at their business. It was super easy to use and the patches seem to be holding very well after six months.

          Works as described.
Product performed as descriped. Very easy to spread out. Tamped down, but material began to stick to tamper after awhile. Was skeptical about the whole driving over it with your vehicle to pack it down, but trust me, that is the way to do it.

Works way better than I thought
I had a root about eight feet long pushing up my driveway in a "J" pattern from one to one and a half feet wide. It went almost all the way across the drive and I was skeptical on how long the patch would last. Six months later and the drive looks as good as day one. If you build a good base and tamp it down like directed, this stuff meets the all the hype...It worked great for me

            works great AZ
I found that this stuff works great. I had a pothole to fill, about two feet square and four inches deep. I cleaned out the trash, poured U.S. Cold Patch in, tamping as I went, then tire rolled. The patch was firm. A couple of days later it looked like hot mix. And no tarry mess. I recommend it highly.

            Not a good product
I am a contractor and used this product just as recommended. The material did not hold together as promised and now I am removing it. The Sakrete company were no help. Home Depot however refunded the full amount paid without question.
