It's like putting rocks and black dirt into the pot hole. Doesn't pack and stays loose. When I sealed the driveway it just pulled out and caused loose rocks in my sealer. I'm going to have to do the hassel of pulling it out and replacing it.

This stuff works great for me. I've had to make numerous smaller patches and cracks of 1-inch size in asphalt. I clean them thoroughly and tamp the material in well until it's just above level, then use the flat side of a sledge to compact it. This has worked well for me. This finishes in a really black color which stands out against the weathered gray of my blacktop, but I don't mind. You may need to find ways to color it after the fact to blend better. One thing to consider is that this stuff is made somewhat locally, so the quality can vary between manufacturers (note on the bag that the product names are licensed). The company that makes it here (Sakrete) is very good in general and this product has never disappointed for me.

Easily pours into the pothole, but it really shrinks alot. It recommends adding enough to be 25% higher (Probably the right amount) but this makes if very hard to pack and level the patch. This is twice the expense of the other product I am used to using!

Bought this Sakrete cold patch to fill voids in my asphalt driveway and I found it to be useless. followed the instructions carefully and compacted it as required but it won't stick together, it's like black gravel with black sand mixed in. I'll have to remove it and try another product.

Excellent product, probably the best for basic asphalt pothole repair. I live in the country with a chip-seal surface on top of the road in front. The County re-surfaced it about 12 years ago and did a good job. However, the County does not maintain the road. There was a small pothole developing in the chip-seal directly in front of my driveway, maybe about 12" long x 8" wide x 1 1/2" deep, max. I swept out the pothole real good and removed everything. Then I used a small hand-held garden trowel (small shovel) to fill the pothole slightly higher than the pothole. I next used a rubber mallet (like a sledge hammer) and carefully pounded down the BRAND NEW U.S. Cold Patch all around the edges, into the center, and all around. 1. The Cold Patch must be compressed into the hole. I think most guys probably just put the product in a little high (which is correct) and wait until various cars drive over the repair. That method also works, instead of using a rubber mallet to pound it in. I only had to do a very small job. 2. I have personally used U.S. Cold Patch in the past, and so have my neighbors, and it always works perfectly. The patches put in more than a decade ago are still in perfect shape. 3. You need to use NEW FRESH Cold Patch, not a 20 year old bag like I first tried to do. After a while the Cold Patch dries out and is no good. I realized this when I found my old bag of Cold Patch in my shed. No problem...a new bag was only about $20 dollars. Excellent Product. Recommended.

Expensive but a great product

Since the county sucks at getting the time to fix pot holes this is a must if you don’t want your mom or wife to be stuck on the side of the road with a flat from a pot hole!

A little easier to use than Black patch but it cost more than twice as much.

Not useful asphalt by itself. It needs something to hold it together. Sakrete's Blacktop Patch (also at Home Depot) is much better as an all-in-one asphalt fix. Not sure what I'm going to do with the unused bag - too much effort to return.

This Sakrete asphalt patch is the best brand I have ever tried. It goes on and stays on ! I have used 34 bags so far to repair a neglected driveway and now I have no more disintegrated areas.

We used it a few weeks ago and it is holding up nicely.

I'm in the asphalt buisness.and this is not asphalt. This might be best used as Asphalt base. Then put asphalt over the top like the yellow bags of cold patch home Depot sales. These good reviews on this product. Are bogus reviews. Filling up a crack might work good. Or even a deep hole but so does sand and it's cheaper.. Buy the yellow bag it's the same material we get for patching roads.

This is not asphalt patch.this product does not work. Don't buy it. It's just dry black Sandy dirt . There is no kind of binder in this so called asphalt patch. It's a joke. How home Depot sales this crap without testing . I'm bringing a lawsuit against home Depot. A home owner will not pay me my balance .until I replace this asphalt patch..

Worked perfect to fill gap between asphalt apron and new concrete driveway. Put some road base down first to fill the gap then 3" of cold patch. Easy to work with - screeding and tamping. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

This product utterly failed my expectations. There is not enough asphalt for it to stick together. But it is still oil-wet, so when I tried to coat it (along with its surroundings) with an emulsion asphalt sealer, it shed material and would not form a good coating. I solved the problem by first coating it with some old oil paint I had in the garage, letting that dry for a day, and then continued the coating process. That worked, but I wasted a lot of time and effort. It is NOT the best.

Great product for asfault potholes. Fill hole slightly above road grade and tamp down well.
