Previously painted surfaces, the number of coats, and the thickness of the coats can affect the coverage as well. For best results using Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Textured Spray Paint, we recommend applying over a similar color base coat and applying several light coats a few minutes apart. Hold can upright 10-16" from surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can the same distance from the surface, keeping the can in motion while spraying. Textured Spray Paint is designed for application to metal, it is not suitable for painting the inside of a birdbath.

If that doesn't work, wiping the nozzle with mineral spirits should clear it out. Rust-Oleum Stops Rust MultiColor Textured Spray Paint contains a lot of textured pigment, for that reason is it important to shake the can vigorously for at least one minute once the mixing ball begins to rattle. During the painting process is it just as important to shake vigorously to ensure the textured pigment remains blended in the can, this typically results in perfect color. For best product performance, vigorously shake the can for at least one minute once the mixing ball begins to rattle, and frequently during use. All this shaking ensures the solids are thoroughly mixed inside the can, this results in excellent coverage and hide, along with excellent spray.
