I have had to replace in my one year old unit the pressure switch (not once but TWICE), which did not fix the problem. We called Rheem again and they sent a whole blower unit with a new pressure switch in it and it seemed to fix that problem. That caused a total of 5.5 days without hot water. It is now two years old, last weekend another problem. The hot surface ignitor quit. Spent over $200 for a Rheem certified plumber to attempt to fix. The tech that was sent out was very thorough and narrowed it down to a cracked ignitor ceramic cover. Rheem of course was very friendly and agreed to send a replacement part to my house which arrived Wednesday. When I got the part, I had to call the tech to schedule the intall. I'm not sure how much that is going to cost. Upon installing it, the unit would not start because of a faulty FV switch. He talked to Rheem who sent a FV switch out. It did not fix the problem. He will be contacting Rheem Monday for more new parts. This problem has cost us a minimum of 9 straight days with no hot water. Counting all the time I have been waiting for parts, we have been WITHOUT HOT WATER for more than two weeks. I don't have a hot water heater I can rely on. During the first year, before, during and after the pressure switch issues the water heater would shut itself off. We never knew there was no hot water till we needed it. Everyday, througout the day we would have to reset the pressure switch. Very frustrating and very inconvenient, especially during the cold days. I'm not as a young as I used to be, installing this 75 gallon unit took a lot out of me - plus it's located upstairs. We were considering paying someone to install but it was too costly ($1000). With all the bad luck we seem to be having, I'm worried that the latest part, that is yet to come, may not be the solution to the current problem. What can be done to give us peace of mind that we have a water heater we can depend on and not constantly worry that it's going to keep working?

I purchased this water heater but had to return it. The dimensions online are not accurate. The blower fan that is located on the front of the water heater sticks out 10 inches. You need to take this into consideration before purchasing.

I had to replace my previous water heater that failed after only 10 months. The controller failed and would not fire up. This large 75 gal water heater is for a 4-Plex so my poor tenants had to go without hot water for a couple of days. I hope this one, same model, will do better. Home Depot returned to me a pro-rated amount for the heater, but the labor and hassle was costly.

It is a pain, the box says 3/4 nipple but when you open it is 1 in. Also, you need a dedicated outlet or you will have issues with the blower coming on properly. If you can overcome all issues with installing, it works well. If I had to do it all over, I would not go through all that.

Making a gas water heater that instead of having a more conventional pilot light requires an electrical source for ignition is such a dumb backward move. If I had realized this I would not have bought this heater. IF THE POWER SUPPLY GOES DOWN YOU HAVE NO HOT WATER . Another black mark against this

      Very efficient
Purchased one year ago very quiet quick and efficient. But is not California approved when I turned in my rebate form it was rejected? So I spoke to the department in charge and they informed me my hot water heater was too large for California I would have to purchase a smaller water heater that was approved and start using less water? Even though my Gas bill dropped 33% and my water consumption has never been an issue , I installed low - flow sprinklers front and back. All of our homes were built new with 75 gl water heater . Isn't Socialism Great!

        Hello,
We are sorry that you have been having issue with your unit. The use and care manual for the unit that you have selected above advises to clean the blower periodically to remove any buildup of lint or dirt. Also, Remove the inlet plate and blow out any lint or dirt on the wheel and on the screen of the inlet plate. Thank you for your review and I will forward this information to our senior team for review.

        Best Regards

I wish I had read these reviews before buying
Rheem? Never Again!! This water heater has been nothing but a headache. The blower fan keeps stopping and we need to clean the filter every quarter to make sure it starts again. The cover on the fan is unstable and keeps falling off. We call Rheem when we had an issue but it takes forever to talk to someone only to find that they can't help much!! I wish I had chosen Whirlpool or GE.

In reading your review, it is apparent you are having issue with your unit shutting off due to the inlet screen clogging up .
I am sorry you are having any issue with our product. This model water heater does have a blower on the combustion chamber to aid in efficient firing and getting the best economy. The filter screen is there to keep a component (pressure switch) from getting plugged up causing it to not allow the unit to run. Dusty environments, such as laundry rooms, can cause the screen to plug up quicker. You are correct a periodic schedule of cleaning is required to ensure your unit continues to operate without issue.
I cannot find a call record for your unit so I cannot answer whether you have labor or not and what if anything has been done for the cover issue. I am sorry for any long call time waits. The day after a holiday a weekend we do experience a higher call volume. rheem

Better start up instructions needed. Otherwise appears to be performing well.
This unit was easy to install. Note the blower motor clearance on front of heater. The pic is misleading. It adds about 6" to the front. Also this unit requires a 110v outlet near the unit. While installation was straight forward, startup procedures were not as clear. The blower motor runs for 5 seconds after power switch is turned on then stops. The temperature must be set at the lowest setting then the unit reset must be initiated by pressing both increase and decrease temp buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. A green light will come on with no other response from the unit. During this time, a diagnostics is being run. Wait! don't turn the unit off. After a minute or two, it will start the furnace and the blower motor will come on. Now you can increase the temperature to your desired setting. I made the mistake of turning the power switch on several times before I read the instructions a little more carefully. In spite of the poor reviews I've seen here, I like the Rheem products and am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. The electronics can be tricky sometimes and this is no exception. Good luck.

          Worst water heater
. From the pressure switch to the blower assy to the inlet screen. They were replaced on my unit within 30 days of purchase. After a year FV fail, by the second year, hot igniter fail. I expect the gas valve will be next. Nothing but headache when having this brand.

Poor reliability and response from Rheem
The water heater began failing 2 weeks before the 2 year warranty expired and now after 3 weeks we still don't have hot water. At least a dozen calls to Rheem and so far 3 visits from 2 different plumbers replacing the gas valve then the igniter. The plumbers have been cooperative but Rheem has been pathetic - delays in placing service orders, request for service just not taking place until we call again, the last time even the plumber called them to ask what was happening. We just got a full replacement approved but will have to wait again a few days for formal authorization and scheduling of installation.

Avoid unless you like spending over $1k to take cold showers
This water heater is total garbage. I'm currently on my second plumber visit within 45 days of installation. Rheem appear to manufacture complete junk and I couldn't be more disappointed with this purchase. Customer service are useless in that it takes two days to get a call back from a plumber during which time you have no hot water. Go with a different brand, any brand...or just try making one yourself. It's guaranteed to be better than this junk even if the only tool you own is a hammer.

                      DO NOT BUY
We installed this water heater, turned it on and nothing. I called Rheem and we went to trouble shooting. It was determined that we need a visit from a plumber. The heater was purchased on Saturday and no plumber until Thursday. I called Home Depot and they agreed to take it back , but needed an RA to do so. Rheem wouldn't give it to me but would give Home Depot the RA number if they called. Thank you Home Depot for calling and being persistent when helping a customer. I'll continue to be a Home Depot customer but will never never never recommend any product from Rheem.
