Customer Reviews for Redi Base 8 in. x 24 in. Disposable Plastic Footing for In-Ground Concrete Column

I tried using these with 12" dia form tubes exactly as instructed, cutting off every other tab, and 2 of the remaining tabs snapped off as the tube was inserted, making it unusable! On the second one I even heated it up first in the sun to make it more pliable, and two of the tabs still cracked part way through, but I was able to duct tape it together well enough to use. I then bought a competitor's base which is much sturdier. The attached picture shows both side by side with the same size tubes.

The base worked out great, I didn't follow the instructions exactly as they said in the instructions. I used the 12" sonotube and the instructions said to cut-out every other tab. Guess this would make it easier to insert the tube. Instead I used a heat gun on the tabs and slipped the tube up leaving all the tabs for better support. It worked great.

These are really nice. The only problem comes in using them with the 12 inch tubes. The tubes are 12 - 13 inch diameter and the redibase is really stiff plastic. It is very hard to get the 12 inch tubes started into the redibase. So just be aware that is a bit tricky. Starting with a lower diameter tube and then feeding the larger diameter tube over it, works well.

I used this for a planter around a light post. It worked out great.

Simple and works great to create a solid footing without the correct amount of concrete and rebar. I use it and a tube for a cantilevered umbrella with 600 lbs concrete (not going any place even in high winds)

The Redi Base footings were guick and easy to assemble to the tube forms. This is the second project I have used them on and will use them again in the future.

Easy to use preformed base creates large, uniform bells on footings.

Worked well. The tip about heating the flanges to easily slide it over a 12” tube was perfect.

Hard to get the 12in tube through them

Worked perfectly for my footings for my deck. Easy to install and plumb up.

The devices were sturdy and provided a large base for the footing. The fitting of the card board tubes was a little tricky as was the attachment of that tube to the base (with duct tape). All in all they performed quite well for the application.

Worked very well for me. These seem to be the best value footing form. I used with 12 inch tubes - I read other reviews that said the tabs could break with large tubes, so I used a hairdryer to warm the tabs before attaching. No problems. They did the job and were a reasonable price.

Let me just say that I did not have problems mating this product to 12" sonotube, let it heat up in the sun or use a blow torch and you good. the problem with this product for me lays elsewhere. I could not pack enough concrete into this base from the top of sonotube, I think I have voids in the volume of this base, as I was unable to make the mix go sideways towards the outer wall of the form. I think part of the problem is the hand mixing of the concrete mix, which comes out rather thick, I'd say semi-dry and does not want to "flow" there you need it, you have to fight it, and from the far end of sonotube it is not an easy task. Maybe a solid flow from mechanical mixer with a little less dense mix would work. other designs which are cone-like shape, or a reversed funnel if you will, should work better.

Redibase is easy to work with. I recommend that if using with 12" tube that you take the time to use a heat gun to heat up all the tabs and bend them out to approximately 85° to 90°. After doing this the base will slide easily over 12" tube.

Definitely needs to be warmed to install on the 12" tubes. Need two people for the largest diameter (12.5") tubes. Did the job though. Overall happy with the product. I would use again.

They are slick and easy to use

Worth it. Larger code compliant footer with smaller 12" pier. Helps to get everything lined up, after using a mini excavator on some holes due to rocks. Backfill holes of any shape and size and verify location as you fill. Then it's an easy pour with ready mix.

Simplified installation of columns

The first 2 I used worked as expected but the 3rd and 4th both broke when sliding them over the 12” tube. Was able to add a couple extra screws and some extra tape to get the job done.

Might work better for 8 or 10 inch tubes but with 12 inch tubes absolutely horrible clips weak and easily broken would not use again.

As with other products I have reviewed, the quality meets expectations but the delivery problems always leaves purchasing online with home depot problematic.
