This Saws a beast. As long as you're gonna use it, don't use anything less than 5 amp hour batteries. It's a great saw!
Built a loafing shed with it and a cordless makita jigsaw. I couldn't be happier.

Bit of disappointed quality from Makita, received with damaged bent wing nut that locks slider bar. Has no damage to outer box or inner packing materials, I guess/assumed that damage were occurred at factory.

What a beautiful saw!
The build quality was amazing. Sadly, I meant to order the 12" version and accidentally ordered this instead. HD accepted the return without any drama as I had not used the saw at all. However, my experience on the 12" model has left me speechless. It was mostly perfect out of the box. I just needed to adjust a couple of things for calibration. I also did not realize how much of a positive difference the lack of a wire would mean.

this is a well-balanced tool and superior to the single battery model which I already owned. Would love to see a metal shoe instead of plastic the depth and angle adjustment are easily accessed. I do like the rafter hook.

Makita really went above and beyond when they designed this beast. Fist off, it's buikt like a tank. Everything is made from magnesium and cast aluminum except the casing, sobit will take a lot of abuse.
It comes with a 24 tooth blade that rips wood like nothing at all. The cuts are always smooth and straight. The added weight of this saw really helps you control it well when cutting.
The seph adjustment is easy to adjust, but I really love the bevel adjustments on this saw. They added a secondary positive stop knobs that allows you to automatically stop at 22.5 degrees or 45 degrees without needing to look at the marks every time.
It needs to run off of two batteries at the same time, but the 5.0 last a very long time. It even has double battery indicator lights on the top of the saw to show you how much more juice you still have.
As for the rear handle, I like these much better than the did wonders as the are more comfortable to use, and are not as wide.
I will say that there is a slower build up of power going to the blade than what you would find in an electric saw, but only takes a second to get the full rpm up. This even has a self adjusting motor that will increase power on its own when needed. This should help you save on battery usage.
There were a few things that really got to me about this buy. The first is that they give you no bag to keep this in. Makita is usually good about this, but not this time. Another is the saw can take an edge guide, but again Makita did not include it (really Makita??) And the third is there is no place in the saw to store the blade removal wrench. Many other saws, especially in this range has an onboard wrench storage slot.
Other than Makita cheating out a bit on accessories, the saw is just plain awesome.

Well worth the money
This saw deserves a 5+. If you read the one star review you will see the same review. I felt many only read the negative reviews and I wanted everyone to know how I felt about this saw. I have been a general contractor for 35 years and have had many miter saws over the years. So when I decided to get a small light weight cordless miter saw I did my research. I have plenty of Milwaukee power tools and would have preferred to stick with Milwaukee since I have plenty of batteries and chargers. However, when I read the reviews on the Milwaukee 7 1/2" cordless it sent me running. And the customer support was terrible. The reviews on the Ryobi, Dewalt were no better (very poor at best). The Makita was the higher priced of them all. The Makita was the only one that ran on 2- 18v batteries which I believe is key to it's performance. Unlike the others battery life (number of cuts) is unbelievable. Ran it for 3 days cutting trim some 2 x 4's and a few 2 x 6's on one charge. It won't cut a 2 x 4 standing on edge without turning it over but has no problem laying down flat. Unlike the others it will cut up to 11 1/2" on the flat due to its double slide bar design. This is a trim saw and should be used that way. Light weight. Powerful. Long lasting. This saw will do 95% of what my 12" miter saw will do. More expensive but a better investment!

Best miter saw in it's class
Knowing that many including myself only read the negative reviews I gave this saw a 1 star to make you read this. In reality this saw deserves a 5+. This is the absolute best small saw on the market today. I have used both the Dewalt and Milwaukee and the Makita is built to a much higher standard. Yes, it costs more but is worth it !!

Great saw. Quiet, efficient, accurate out of the box. I had to learn to cut crown laying flat. It wasn't a problem. Instructions come with a table for cutting crown on almost any angle of wall. my joints fit beautifully. Also a great battery life

Extremely powerful!
This thing has power like a corded grinder. Yes, it’s big and heavy, what else would you expect? It’s a professional grade tool, hands down. Don’t ask about battery life. Look, cordless angle grinders suck down batteries. Period. If you need to run constantly, get corded. That’s the case with any brand. If you need this size and this kind of power in cordless, buy this one and get an extra set of batteries (or 2 even) to have on the charger. One thing that helps, let the tool do the work - the harder you lean into it, the harder you bog the motor, and the shorter the battery life. This thing will cut just as fast as it can (and it’s fast!) all on it’s own.

Makita has NEVER let me down....
I'm a 62 yr old carpenter. I own several 10 and 12" compound mitre saws. Needed to lighten the load and portability for light carpentry. This saw kills it. The quality and smooth operation with precise cuts right out of the box is typical Makita. Precise cuts with the detents and bevel setup is phenomenal. Lightweight and portable makes my life so much easier. PLUS, NO ext cord required. This is another... knocked it out of the park tool for me. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Only wish was dual bevel.
