I bought this to replace the same brand & model that was leaking out the bottom of the disposal. I just swapped out the disposal unit, keeping the existing sink connection. The nice part about that was the bayonet style attachment - just push up and twist to lock it in. The only bad part was that I had ordered the version that does not come with a power cord, expecting to reuse the existing cord. (It looked like it just plugged in.) However I was unable to get that out of the old unit.

Not as expected
In places we've previously lived, the garbage disposal could handle banana peels and even cantaloupe rinds. We haven't tried rinds, but banana peels don't go down due to the fibers in the peel. It becomes like a "hairball" and then it makes the disposal loud. I have to dig out the hairball after each time. I wish I had known this as I would have kept the old one which was 15 years old and handled banana peels, etc. just fine.

Hi, thank you for your feedback, and we're sorry to hear that your unit is not performing up to your expectations. While disposers can handle most food waste, fibrous items may get caught in the grind chamber. To help grind these items in the future, try to add some hard food waste, such as fruit pits or bones. Excessive amounts of peel being ground at once should be avoided. For more fibrous materials, we recommend an Evolution or Advanced series disposer that has advanced grinding capabilities.

Good brand but I did not like this style.
It came with the rim on the disposer crooked and had a hard time locking it back in place, finally worked, next time probably buy different style

Direct replacement for whirlpool 1/2 go gc2000. You will need to possibly remove/grind off a tab on the lock ring or reuse gc2000 lock ring / without tab. No mention in the instructions for this offending tab or it’s removal

it broke in 1.5 years
After purchasing it on August 2, 2022, and today is February 3, 2024 just a year and a half later, the this version of incinerator is completely broken unable to be fixed. It makes a crazy noise. What appears to have happened is that the two blades Have come loose. This is nothing that the consumer can repair. Now, there appears to be a four year warranty, but who do you contact? There’s no contact information and it appears it would be easier just to purchase a new ine. Garbage disposals should last at least 10 years. I tried to upload a video to let you know how loud the sound is, but Home Depot does not appear ro provide this option.

Great but it's time for improvement
I've have always bought InSinkerator Garbage Disposals. The work very well. The last one failed after 8+ years and failed because of a leak in the metal diaphragm (seal) that separate the grinding chamber and the electric motor (highlighted in yellow in the attached. InSinkerator has now come out with variants with stainless steel grinding components, but those are useless for the type of use in my house (I never had an issue with the galvanized grinding components).
Can InSinkerator develop a Badger 5 version with Stainless Steel diaphragm (seal)? If not, It's time for me to start exploring alternative brands.
Thanks

Easy to setup, works well
This Bader 5 disposer was pretty straight forward to setup and easy to use. Solidly made and lasts long. Pretty quiet for this version and grinds trash very well. Fits in existing installation of older Badger replacement with ease.

Badger is very Smart: Lift and Latch Technology!
I was replacing an 11 year old Badger-1 since it stopped working. It had a one year warranty and it ran for 11 years, which is a great bonus. Since I purchased exactly the same item the installation was so easy; under 10 minutes. (I did not have to replace the old Sink Flange, I used the existing one).
I also saved some time and money since it came with the power cord assembled. I really do appreciate the "Lift and Latch" technology: it was so easy and I felt so good.

I Love It
I am pleased with product so far and have had no problems. The product was installed by a professional and he had no issues as I watched him do the work. I felt that the product was priced fairly so I purchased it to replace another InSinkErator product that I had in there before. I would purchase the same thing a third time. Thanks for making such a quality product.

Doesn't last
I see from past reviews of this product that it is expected to be changed every 5-6 years. So it's been over 10. Didn't expect it to be in this bad of shape. It came with the house and the house was built in 2009.

Hi, thanks for sharing your comments. While a disposer should provide many years of service, like any appliance, it will eventually need to be replaced once it is not performing as expected. The life of an InSinkErator® Disposer is entirely dependent upon service conditions, usage patterns, and local water quality. Should you need assistance, you can reach out to us via https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.

Made in America failed on me on this purchase
My 7yr old Badger 3 blew out and decided to replace it with an identical unit. Found one at the nearest Home Depot and installed it that night. Noticed the flange design was changed so it no longer can free spin and took more effort to mount and install. Once I finished wiring the Badger Disposal 3 unit and finished the installation, the unit won’t turn. I had to uninstall the disposal unit, put the old one back in and it fired up. Ended up buying another unit that worked. Made in USA failed.

Hello, Loui. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. We're sorry to hear that you had difficulty installing your new disposal. Our new Lift & Latch disposers have a stationary ring with a small notch to make installation easier. This small adjustment allows you to simply lift the disposer and make a slight turn to have the tabs latch over the ridges on the slide-up ramps instead of continually turning until the tabs lock. If there's anything else that we can do to further help you, feel free to contact us via https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.

Dependable for a long time
This item was installed in 30 minutes. Easy to do. Heay to lift into place to rotate and lock into the drain coller. Once connected was very easy. I am very happy the electrical cord was pre attached at the factory. My last Badger 5 lasted 26 years and only rusted out causing leaks in the body. That is a long time in service.

Motor completely sheered off in 1 month of use!
I bought this unit in October 2022 and had it installed in January 2023. After less than a month I came into the kitchen to discover a large pool of water and the lower half/motor completely sheered away from the upper half that remained firmly connected to the kitchen sink.

Badger 5
It took me less than 30 minutes to take the old ones off and put the new one. I liked for the fact it came with the power cord built in so it was a plug in as opposed to putting the wires together. Follow instructions and watch a YouTube if needed. Good luck

Exact replacement for 22+ yr old model (Badger 5)
Easy to install using online videos (YouTube & Insinkerator). Didn't even look at new instructions. Kept existing sink mount which made re-installing easy. Had to cut the discharge tube to proper length to fit my plumbing (used old pipe as template). But otherwise, a pretty simple DIY project. Was hoping new model might be quieter to operate but that doesn't seem to be the case.

This is a review of the failed product before this one was installed.
The same InSinkErator failed in my brand new home. Ruined the cabinet underneath and I'm seeking restitution.
It's hard to rate this new product being it is new. If it fails too, I'll seek restitution for this one as well. What say you?

Beware of this garbage disposal
After only 3 years, my disposal started leaking from the bottom. This was the 3rd Insinkerator disposal in 14 years so I decided to take this one apart before buying another. Insinkerator advertises the chopping area is galvanized, but once the galvanization wears off, the steel quickly rusts. This happen to mine so severely that it rusted a hole that allowed water to get into the motor compartment (see the blue circled area in the picture). No more "galvanized" and no more Insinkerator!

Hi SteveE, thanks for posting your review. We understand how unpleasant this experience must have been for you and we're sorry. Rust is something we generally consider normal wear and tear. The grinding components on our standard Badger Series are coated with corrosion resistant zinc and do not begin to discolor until this coating wears away. The amount of rust varies and is dependent on usage and what may have been put through the disposer. The water quality, use of aggressive cleaning solutions, or even grinding of acidic foods can speed up discoloration. We're always working hard to improve our products and we value your candid feedback.

Before you buy replacement unit
Does not come with an electrical cord. I just bought a replacement unit for the same Badger 5 series disposal unit. Some amateur lessons I learned today; Buy plumbers puddy for the drain. Also buy tin cutters to remove the power cord from your old unit to attach it to your new one. You can try and use pliers or Allen keys, but you're working in a confined space and can damage the anchors that need to depressed to remove the cord easily. Or you can surrender your handyman card and buy a new cord like I did.
