Stained my brand new carpet!
I used my bug spray many time and had been pleased. I recently moved and decided to spray inside and out my new town home the day before i was to move in. Move in day came and i noticed right away that there were spots on the stairs carpet. I knew it was from the bug spray because this was the only product that i used to spray the baseboards of the stairs as well as other areas but the stairs is the only carpeted area. Im so upset!

Great product, great service
Bought it like 6 months ago, it has definitely resolved the ants issue in my apartment, but my 5 stars are more cause the service, 3 weeks ago the wand stopped working with half gallon full, I called support and with a few questions and 5 mins talk they just arranged to send me a replacement, cost free, which I received 2 weeks ago, this is the type of service that creates loyalty

Cheapest Poor Quality Trigger
My trigger broke from moderate pressure, making an entire gallon of product now useless. Also, a bug has to nearly drown in this weak formula. REALLY, Ortho??????

This absolutely works!
We started using this product after my mother recommend it. We had not use this spray in over 2 yrs. We would spray once week for a month, inside and out. Before we used it, we would see spiders, here and there. Once we started using it, if you did see one it was dead. But we have not seen any spiders or bugs period so we stopped spraying. Well spring 2021 has hit here in FL and we went back to spraying and this spray is a game changer. Love this product!! If it can keep bugs at bay here in this woody area in FL where the bugs are in abundance it can work anywhere. We spray everywhere, from garbage cans to the shed out back. If it's not working for you spray again you won't be disappointed.

Kills most bugs
I am a continued user of this product. It works wonderful inside and out getting rid of most bugs. It definitely works on spiders which is my biggest worry and annoyance. I love the battery operated sprayer but it seems to not spray as far within a few uses. Also my indoor cats somehow got fleas and it doesn’t seem to work around the inside of the house to rid of them.

Not Working On My Brown Widow Issue
Bought this and applied to the outside of my house on all edges, holes, crevices, door jams, window seals, etc. a few weeks ago. I was pleased with how quickly Tiger beetles started to crawl out of their holes and die. I rated the product a 3 because it did seem to work on lots of pests other than what I was targeting. I felt optimistic that this would work to help my issue with brown widow spiders, which I was/am finding by the dozen per day. However I noticed by the same evening that more brown widows had made nests on the porch, right above where I sprayed just hours earlier. I saw some responses by ortho on here to allow the pesticide 6-10 days to work on target species. However, now it has been 20+ days since I sprayed and I am still finding plenty of these spiders. The picture attached was taken just a few minutes ago. This is about the 10th one I’ve killed by hand today. All roughly the same size and all with egg sacs, meaning I will be having even more here soon.

works so poorly ants climb all over it
bought it had to set main thing down so i could get the wand to work. part of me thinks you need to be HE MAN to get the trigger to work. so i sat the bottle down in a NON active area and all of a sudden the ants came from EVERYWHERE to get into bottle climbing all over i did not even really want to touch bottle after that

Please stop changing the wand
2-3 years ago this was a great product, wand had 3 settings: stream, narrow spray wide spray. Then you "upgraded" kinda worse but still fairly functional: spray and flat spray. Now the latest incarnation: narrow spray(weak stream) and spray(dribbles out of the nozzle) Please stop "fixing" this, it was fine! Now It's garbage.

Quit spraying
Bought this in the past 45 days and it worked well until this week. It no longer sprays. Batteries are good, nozzle is set to one of the types of sprays and the collar is turned to on. Lots of noise but nothing coming out. Any suggestions? Still gave it 2 stars due to previous experiences but this is disappointing.

We have some troubleshooting tips: Please place the container above the wand (either holding it above or setting it on something) and spray for 30 seconds. If the Wand begins to spray well at the end of 30 seconds you should be able to put the container down and continue spraying. Also. the product may have crystallized in the tip of the wand, and you can soak just the tip in water and try to clear it. If none of these tips work, we are committed to making this right for you. Excellent product terrible wand
I should have stock in your company as much I as use your home defense product. I live in a woodsy area so little invaders are always trying to come in. The product works excellently especially on spiders. I gave it a 4 because of the wand applicator. I'm sorry but it's terrible. I am referring to the twist on the cap with the hole on top. The cord is so coiled that it never stays in. The liquid has a hard time flowing through due to lack of power or suction or something. Please go back to the flip cap and less coil on the cord. That snap mechanism was more secure and I fought less with the cord. Please keep in mind, ease of usability is nearly as important as the quality and effectiveness of the product. Thanks

Horrible smell! Do not consider using indoors.
My wife and I have been unable to rid the house of the smell after spraying one 10 ft. ant trail in our breakfast area. We washed with soap & water and even wiped the area with 91% Isopropyl alcohol, but despite absorbing all the liquid in paper towels from hard surfaces, the smell persists and is causing eye irritation and headaches. Plus, no household clean-up hints on label.

Burnt my grass!!
I sprayed all around my patio and cement cracks in the walk way and all the grass next surrounding the area I sprayed burnt! And I still have ants!

Works. But The Wand Breaks Easily. Frustrating.
I've bought this product twice. Both times the wand stops working when either a.) you need to refill the bottle or b.) you tug too hard on the tube at the spout. This will frustrate you to no end. This product has a way of ruining my day every time I use it.

You can achieve this by holding or placing the container higher than the wand. Best Fire ant and roach killer
I have been buying this to kill fire ants outside my house as well as roaches. Living in Texas they are a huge problem. I spray the poison directly into the entrances of the ant hill. Works wonders and lightning fast. Thank you for such a great product. P.S I love the fact that it is not harmful to pets once dry as I have cats and dogs.

Bad Batch
I have used Home Insect Control for many years with great success...however...someone missed quality control check on this years batch. The only way this gallon will kill any insect is to spray a puddle then hold his head under until he drowns. Disappointed

Don't waste your money.
This product does not work at all. Attached photo was taken minutes after the spray dried. It has zero affect on these ants.

With living in a wooded area, we tend to see a ton of bugs trying to get in the house. We've used a ton of different insect killers, but really did like this one. We only used it on the outside of our house and our unfinished basement (as we have dogs and didn't want to use it inside just in case). It seemed to work well as we avoided bugs getting in for quite a while, even in areas where we always saw critters coming in due to cracks in our older house. Downside--didn't last anywhere near 12 months. I know it says "up to" 12 months, but I'd say more like three to four weeks! Overall, I'd recommend though!

The product with attached sprayer is very easy to use. Having the knob on the side of the container to hold the spray handle is great. The product has no odor, which is great when using indoors. I'm using it for flea control. I wish the 12 month protection works for fleas, but it doesn't appear to. If it did, then it would get 5 stars.

Ortho Home Defense Insect Killer
The ants have been relentless this year. We've had them before, but never to this capacity. It seems the warmer it got, the more they came out. I couldn't take it anymore and initially started to buy some Raid. I decided to try something different, and I wish I had stuck to my first instinct. I came home all ready and eager to use this spray with a cool, neat wand, only to be disappointed. I literally saturated a group of ants while trying to sit in my backyard and enjoy the air and it seems the spray was just a bath to them! A few died instantly but others kept running around as if trying to warn the others! They are literally invading my space inside the house. I even brought some raid baits to put in cabinets, doorways and other entry points and I haven't seen a difference there either. I brought a Bayer brand last year and it worked like it said it would. I didn't buy that brand this time because I wanted to give another product a try. I'm sure you have products that work just as great, but this particular insect killer doesn't cut it. Does not kill spiders.
I have used this product for years with a false sense of security. Today I found a Brown Recluse (Violin on its back) in the house and caught it live in a mason jar. I sprayed THREE PUMPS of Ortho Home Defense MAX Insect Killer For Indoor & Perimeter on a piece of cardboard and dropped it in the mason jar with the spider. Three hours later the spider is still very much alive. This product is a waste of money.

Wonderful, simply wonderfu.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product and the packaging is so easy to use. No pumping, no odor and no residue. I have had great results. We had a neighbor behind us recently move in and they brought some unwanted guests, large cockroaches. Not the small German Browns the big ones. I use the Home Defense MAX and they come out of their hiding places and I find them flat on their backs with their little feet in the air dead or dying. Thank you.

Satisfied all around!
I followed the directions closely with this product and sprayed the interior and exterior of our home yesterday evening. I have to say that I'm impressed with how effective it has been already. Our home is a new construction and we were having trouble with ants, millipedes, and spiders (especially outside and in the garage). I've yet to see a millipede or ant inside the house since I sprayed. And it looks as if all the spiders have begun to take their show on the road lol I will definitely continue to use this product. No exterminator for me!

Discrepency in label and doesn't pass the test.
First, we purchased this item for the purpose of killing spiders (including black widows). The back of the bottle states "Spiders (including black widow, Brown Recluse, Hobo and Wolf)". We sprayed the perimeter of our house in June, and I have noticed spider webs all summer. Today I found two black widows one inside and one outside. Both times the Home Defense was used and both times it failed to kill the black widows. Which brings me here tonight. The description on this website states it "(excludes Black Widows and Brown Recluse)". The inaccuracy is a huge problem and is very misleading. The product failed and I want a new product that will do what it says!

The product that you have is registered for control of Black Widow Spiders. Timing is an important factor in insect control. Most insects cannot be controlled in the egg stage, so insecticides are targeted to control insects in the larval or adult stages. Also, more mature or larger insects will take longer to control than younger or smaller insects. You may not see the insects die immediately, but you should see a reduction in the pests or their damage within a few days. Treating both the outside entry points and the inside at the same time will also help. It may also be necessary to reapply if you notice an increase in insect activity.

Does Not Work on Roaches
I heard from the leasing office that my neighbor had roaches. I never saw any roaches in my unit. Then, my neighbors that had roaches moved out. Afterward, I saw one roach in the dishwasher before running it. Then, on a different day one roach in the bathroom. Finally, a few weeks later I spotted one roach in my bedroom.
When encountering the roach in my bedroom, I sprayed it very heavily with Ortho Home Defense. It was still able to scurry away after constant spraying.
Probably works on ants and lesser bugs. But, don’t buy it to treat roaches.

Awful sprayer
I bought this a couple of days ago & just tried to use it. Sprayer wand will not prime. Have tried all suggested methods to make it work to no avail. Had one years ago with the same problem & thought surely they redesigned the sprayer. Nope! Will now pour it into a manual spray jug.
