I am very pleased with its performance. It is very light weight and easy to start. Can't wait to put a brush blade on it and see what it can do!

As other Hitachi products, clear instruction, easy to assemble and use, light weight, just start and do your works.
The most important thing is to choose the right and satisfied products. Once you picked it, you will normally have no problem, question to use the other products under it's name. I have been using the "Hitachi" blower, chain saw etc....for years and continue to have confident to use their products in the future.

What a Gem!
I've used it 5 or 6 times now and each time only 2 pulls to start.I have a fairly large yard. The tap and go feature works like it should. I had a Ryobi str. shaft and it died on me last year. Only got one good year out of it. Even when it was new, it took about 10 hard pulls to crank it and then it got worse. The Hitachi is the bomb-digity!.

Not Your Grandma's Weed-Whacker!!!
I should have bought this thing years ago. I wasted a lot of $$$ on electric weed-eaters; they were just toys. My only suggestion would be to put the -/o switch somewhere other than the handle. I keep turning if OFF by mistake in tight spots. Other than that, I love this machine!!!

This is a high quality product at a reasonable price.
I recently purchased this unit to replace another new trimmer that I purchased and returned to a Hm Dpt competitor. The reason I purchased the Hitachi is because of the quality of a Hitachi cordless drill that I purchased over 10 years ago tha'ts still running strong. This unit has not dissapointed me in the least. It starts easy, purrs like a kitten at idle, and roars like a lion when in use. (Very strong.) The line it came with seems to be strong and very durable. I think this one will last me anther 10 years or so. (You do get what you pay for.)

Good trimmer for home use - one suggested modification
I've only had the trimmer for a couple weeks, so this review doesn't speak to its longevity or durability. The seven year warranty does seem like a commitment indicating it will give good service long term. My prior Homelight trimmer was in heavy service for almost 20 years.
The trimmer works as advertised, is very easy to start, light to carry and quiet. Since it uses a 50:1 fuel/oil ratio it produces no perceptible exhaust.
I did make one immediate modification. I installed a "Pivot Trim" cutting head rather than the stock unit. Google Pivot Trim to see what stores in your area carry them.
The Pivot Trim doesn't eat line like stock units do. I ran my former trimmer, with a Pivot Trim, for at least three weeks at a stretch without using any additional line at all and I'm sure the Hitachi will do the same. I don't understand why the Pivot Trim is not OEM on most trimmers.
When you add the Pivot Trim you have to adjust the placement of the line shield along the shaft so that the unit cuts with the spinning line in a horizontal plane. This is no big deal.
I also installed the shaft grip handle outside the recommended section of the shaft housing so that I can stand upright while trimming.
Otherwise, it looks like a good investment.

Great value
Easy to start, easy to use. Has power to spare. It does get a little heavy after hanging on to it for a half hour. A strap would be nice. I give it a solid A.

The jury is still out on this trimmer
Assembling parts of the trimmer that needed to be assembled was easy. Start up was a challenge however.. Followed instructions for starting, but had to pull starter rope at least 50 times to get the trimmer started. Once started the trimmer ran well and cut great. Turned trimmer off to do other chores and when I went back to start the trimmer it wouldn't crank. Do not believe it was flooded. Finally stored it for the day and will try again another day to crank it.
