Dunno how the price doubled in the last year for some - it's only a dollar or so higher than it ever has been for me, but it's a good product++
It has always been expensive - each filter is $33 or $34 where I live and always has been for the 10 or so years that I've had the unit. I would have done back flips to have found filters for half this, but it was never the case for me. Anyway, the water quality is very good coming out of the fridge, and there is no decrease at all in water pressure with the filter on. It's never caused a problem, and it's so simple to change. I am very happy with the unit, but I will agree that the filters are way too expensive - If they were around $20 I would change them more often, but as it is, I only do it twice a year since there are just the two of us, and that seems to be adequate.

Good quality filter
I use this filter under my kitchen sink for a separate faucet and another one for my refrigerator ice maker. Good price. Very easy to remove the old filter and install the new one. Just twist a little by hand.

Great tasting water!
I have been buying this filter for nearly 10 years and though the price is a bit high I feel the quality of the water is worth the expense. When comparing it to the water coming straight from the faucet, which has also been filtered for R&S, you can taste and smell the difference. If we didn't have this filter I know I would not drink as much water as I do.

Easy to use but...
Have used this filter for years with our side-by-side fridge without any performance issues but after seeing the price as of today... Yikes! What the heck happened?! The price has doubled!!! These filters are not worth what we are being charged for. Might be time to rethink our water filtration system in our kitchen.

Doubled in price over the last year!
I would buy a different brand of water filter because the cost of the replacement filters has more than doubled in the last year.

Good filter, would buy again....
It's inteesting though that this filter costs what it does and GE mentions about lubricating the seal with 'food grade silicone' yet wouldn't it make sense to include the .06 cent tiny tube of food grade silicone in the box? Honestly if you recommend it, honestly how much can it cost to include it?

OEM Quality
I've bought GE replacements for years. Recently I tried another brand. The alternative was about $10 cheaper but came without the peel off safety seal (GE has one) over the filter connection. The general quality of the non-GE filter seemed lower (the filter was lighter, plastic was not as high quality). After thinking about how much water I run through the filters, all of it basically consumed as ice and coffee, I decided to return the cheap knock-off and buy a GE filter. Frankly I don't know who makes the alternative filter and I decided that a no-name Chinese copy was not worth the risk. If the filter contains harmful chemicals who would take responsibility? If the filter is ineffective how would I know? At least with the GE filter I have some confidence that there are reasonable quality controls and someone at GE is ultimately responsible. Maybe I'm kidding myself, but that's what I think. I'll stick with the real thing from now on.

Affordable solution for good tasting water
I have been using this product for at least three years and have a neighbor using it as well. I do recommend installing a new head every other time not just using the refill as it seems to clog if you don't which will stop the water flow.

Good Simple Water Filter
Good basic water filter. Easy to install, no mess if instructions are followed and are careful to not break housing (kind of cheap).
This is my first replacement on the system, using it for icemaker and filtered water at sink mainly to help with chlorine smell/taste in treated town water. Amazed at weight difference from expended filter to new one, so after water trapped is factored in i still feel its taking a lot of impurities out of my drinking water and ice.
One con for me - is the instructions say to lube the o-rings with a food-grade silicon grease, but its not included and not mentioned on the box, so i had no idea. 2 months without it and im OK, but the next replacement i will have some on hand. i think its so the o-rings in the hosuing dont dry out, which would cause a leak. In short, it works!

Does a good job
Gets rid of rust and smell from our well. Ice and water tastes good with it. The refrigerator has a built in filter that costs alot to replace, is custom order and does not do as good a job as this does. I put this in the basement so I don't have to move the refrigerator to change. My only gripe is that it costs almost as much to buy a filter and bracket as it does to buy a replacement filter.

Very good filter system
Very easy to change, once you pull your fridge out to get to it. Have used this system for around 6 years, changing filter elements about every 4 months, and have no problems at all. Seems to do it's job very well. You can tell a difference in the quality of the filtered water vs unfiltered. I live in a rural modular home subdivision that gets its water from a cystern system. Basically a well system with a very large pumping system to fill the cystern which then supplies the water from there to the homes. I have drank the water straight from the tap and you can see stuff in the water and has a flavor. This system filters out all the visible as well as the invisible stuff and makes the water and ice clean and fresh. It is the only system I have tried because once you find something that works this well why change.

Does the job nicely but expensive.
At $31+ per filter X 2 filters per year = $62 / year. That's a lot of money to have filtered cold water and ice from your refrigerator!
Works well. I can tell the difference in the taste of the water.

Best Product for Water Clarity
I love the procedure for installing this filter, just unscrew the old one and screw on the new one ! No turning off the water either ! The best water in the house is not bottled, it's from our outlet on the refrigerator ! Ice cubes also benefit from the filter !! I Rate It a A++++++++++

If this filter fits your appliance or faucet, I recommend you buy it.
I've been using this filter for my filtered water faucet in the kitchen for the past 1-1/2 yrs. This is my 3rd one and I will continue to buy it. I have very hard water that doesn't taste good and the water tastes great coming out of this filter, better than bottled water.
