My truck cap is 20 years old and had been getting water in it for quite a while. Original mounting gasket was dried out. I should have done this years ago but always thought it would be too difficult. It was actually quite easy to replace. I did it by myself.
This tape looks kind of flimsy in the package but when it's all spread out under the cap, it makes a nice grippy seal. I bought two inexpensive 6 foot 2 x 2s. I lifted the cap up with my shoulders and slid the 2x2s under. Then scraped all the old tape off and rolled out the new tape. Has no leaks at all now. Total cost including lumber was under $10.
