Works fine

Great tool works very well.

Yes, these kits work but are a pain to use and set up. The biggest issue is that during an ongoing project your drill press is MIA but if you can batch all of your mortises it will do fine.

Looked great in the box, appeared to well build.Only problem would not fit my floor model drill press. Tried all the combinations available and could not find one that would fit. After about an hour, gave up and returned it. Then ordered a Jet mortising machine from Home Depot, love it.

Very easy to assemble and works well.

This Delta Mortising kit, gives me what I need, the right way with a price I can afford.Thank you Home Depot.

bitts are dull

Things move at a slower pace for me, so I haven't even unboxed the kit. I've owned & used one before, with great results. I'll be making spindles for the mission oak bed I've always wanted but can't afford. Unless Delta has suddenly taken a plunge in quality, I know that I'll be fine.

when i figured out how to mount it on my drill press it worked fine

This item arrived with a cracked case but no damage to product. Was exactly as described, the chisels required a light honing but no big deal. Fit my Rigid 3/4 hp floor standing drill press perfectly. Good alternative to a dedicated mortiser for me, I don't need to create mortises every day. I have never used a mortising machine before but not sure how it could produce any better mortises.

When I tightened the clamp around the quill, I tightened it tight as recommended. This threw the attachment out of alignment and caused the bit to rub chisle and the chuck to drop down out of the drill press.

Unfortunately it might work well in soft woods, but completely failed on hard maple. It was incapable of cutting more than an 1/8” without bits of wood fiber completely shutting it down.

The kit didn't fit my Delta drill press. The description said that it would fit most drill presses so it didn't say it would fit everything but I figured that at the very least it would fit the same brand.

Chisels needed substantial sharpening and honing to be useable, drill bits are very poor quality. Also you have to remove the depth stop on a the delta 18-900L to install the chisel holder. For what you pay for this you can get an actual mortiser from harbor freight. The quality would be same.

I have used this product on two projects so far--each of which utilized multiple mortise-and-tenon joints. The product worked well. My expectations were met.

I bought this mortising jig to go along with a new Wen 12" variable speed drill press I recently purchased. As with most after-market accessories, it took some studying, a call to Wen and Delta, and a bit of modification to get the jig hooked up properly to the drill press. Once done, however, it works great. No more awkward and time consuming setup cutting mortises with a router. I'm fully satisfied with this product, and would give five stars were it not for the tweaks I had to make to attach it. As for the modification, I offer what I had to do in case anyone else runs into this: First, you need to use a screw driver to remove the depth stop from the quill (no big deal there). Next, the jig comes with a number of split-ring and half-ring spacers to size the jig's attachment collar to the drill press quill. For the Wen, the three split-ring nesting spacers were perfectly sized for its quill, but the inner one is smaller than the chuck's diameter, so I had to knock the chuck out to attach and detach the jig -- not what I wanted at all. I used a hacksaw to cut the inner split-ring spacer in half, filed it smooth, so now I can slip the collar over the chuck, insert in the now half-ring inner spacer, and tighten the collar. No taking the chuck on and off -- this makes attachment quick and easy. The foregoing "jury-rigging" is the only reason for the 4 star rating. I'm not sure why Delta didn't make all of the quill spacers half-ring -- it would surely simplify things.

I was able to mount the mortise chisel assembly to my drill press with no problems. The chisel & assembly are very sturdy and worked well in cutting 3/8" mortises in red oak. I could not utilize the fence, however. It took up too much space on the drill press-such that I could not go far enough into the work piece.

None of the rings fit my Craftsman drill press. The set screw hole for the hold down foot was drilled way off center and the foot is way out of position when it is tightened. Another set screw hole was also drilled off center. As yet I have not been able to use it.

worked for two hours to properly set up and the results were very disappointing. the good thing is a reasonable store manager allowed me to return it for store credit allowing me to spend my $$ more wisely on items of value at the store.
