The security system includes 2 door & windows sensors, 1 motion sensor, 1 remote key fob, main control panel and hardware. The user manual has good detailed instructions, but the print is pretty small. Installation is simple because this is wireless, so I simply screwed the sensors and controller in place. Of course you need 110 for the main panel, so this needs to be positioned by one. It has battery backup too for power outage. The alarm is very loud so it can be heard on multiple levels. It does not have wifi notification - so if you simply want to get notice if someone opens a door or window, this does the trick.
I like the system. I wish I could add more motion detectors too it. Simple to set up. Loud alarm. All in all a good product at the right price point.

Works as Good as what Pros Install
I used to work for a security alarm company, and we installed all kinds of gadgets and gizmos, most of them looked and felt just like this set. They use a lot of the same components and are learned into the system the same way. This kit stands out from most in that you don't need an alarm enclosure installed anywhere in your house, for one! The control panel is where the brains of the operation lies. You can add more sensors to this system if you needed to, but this is the bare bones of the operation and is really all most people ever really need, please don't buy into all the crazy add-ons salespeople and installers try to get you in on. The PIR motion detector in this kit works great for the hallway or an area that is incredibly important to you. Then you have the door sensors. Here's a trick on the door sensors, they work through a magnet, that's the smaller piece. When the magnet leaves the attraction of the sensor, it sets off the alarm. This smaller piece can be taken apart so you can attach the magnet to the frame of the door with silicone if you can't get the smaller piece to sit on the frame correctly (some people have a trim around their door for looks, it's not flat and makes it difficult for the magnet and sensor to work properly. If you don't take it apart, it can be attached by a screw or the double-sided tape included in this kit. The motion sensor can also be stuck to the wall or screwed in, or attached to a mount that then is screwed into the wall. You have options! The wireless keychain dongle is pretty snazzy for arming/disarming, and is the only item in the kit with a battery included. The control panel is the last thing in the kit, and the most important. What's neat about it: it has a tamper magnet that you stick onto the wall, and the control panel over that. When an intruder breaks in and pulls that panel out in attempt to shut it off before the alarm blares, too late! Oh, and if they pulled the power plug from the wall? Nice try, it has a 9V battery compartment for backup. And the alarm is blaring and loud. So if you're looking for something to scare them off, this kit will do it. It works as expected and is cheaper than what the pros install, and works just as well. The display is clear and learning the equipment into the system isn't too hard.
This kit includes two window/door sensors, LCD display panel, one motion sensor, a remote control key FOB (with panic capability) and AC adapter for the control panel if preferred. It's the perfect system for smaller homes or apartments especially since you don't have to mount the sensors etc permanently. I used removable mount strips so that if/when I move I can take my system with me and avoid having to pay costly monthly monitoring fees that the big companies charge. It's easy to install, just remember the alarm will sound from the control panel, so place that in a good spot.
This is a nice system for the money. At first, I thought it was pretty cheaply made, but after installing it, getting everything set-up, and using it I think it is a nice system for the money.
Installation was easy and maybe took 45 minutes to an hour to have it completely ready to go. You will need to buy AAA and 9V batteries, as they are not included. You will need 9V for the motion detector and control panel, and AAA for the door/window sensors. It has several options for notifying you, but I will warn you, the alarm is very, very loud and scare the heck out you when it goes off, even when you know it is going to alarm. The good side of that is, it will scare the heck out of an intruder as well when you have it set to alarm.
Actually, the main reason I got the system is for my daughter’s house. They wanted it to alarm them if one of my small grandchildren would open a door to go outside without an adult. So, it actually will serve two purposes, notification for any door to open, and also serve as a burglar alarm if someone intrudes.
I was not able to install the control panel exactly where they initially wanted it because it would not pick-up an outside door sensor in their walkout basement at that location. The control panel is still in a convenient location however. I had originally suggested that they not put it near their bed anyway, as the alarm speaker is built into the control panel. The chime is plenty loud to notify if someone enters that you know or if one of the children do open the door, yet not annoying. I am sure that the batteries will need to be replaced more often on the doors that are used most often, so you will want to keep an eye on them.
Even though it doesn’t notify with Wifi, it is economical and I will recommend this product to others and my other children as well. The upside is that you don’t have to pay an alarm company.
The Home Security Wireless Protection System is a great affordable option (no monthly fees) for the safety of your home and family. The system installs easily - no wiring needed. The system has 8 zones which can identify where the alarm occurred. The sensors can be placed up to 500 ft. line of sight from the main control panel
The system includes a tri-color LCD display and smart panel with 2 door/window sensors and key fob remote control with panic feature.
Installs easily. Sensors are battery powered, control panel needs an outlet. No problems. Be aware it's just a local alarm (on the panel itself) so a wise burglar could muffle the siren and go about robbing you if no one is around. The key fob is nice, and has a panic button feature. This will keep anyone from sneaking up on you and hopefully scare away any punk who breaks in while you're away.

Very good product
I'm an electrician and I've put lots of wireless security system in and for $100 this thing works great! Easy to install and you can take it with you. The only thing I couldn't find in the user guide was how to program a sensor for a entry delay door. But then realized the sensor with jumpers 01 was the one. Other than that it would have taken me 30 minutes to install.

Best bang for your buck!
Anyone who complains about this wireless home security system is not being fair. The bottom line is that when the audible alarm is triggered, the theif/theives will flee the scene, as long as you live in an urban setting where there are neighbors. The low price for this reliable product makes it a great value. If you want to compare it to other more advanced systems then you must be willing to pay more than double.

Not a good system!!
This system will not allow for chime only without an alert blinking the keypad FOREVER!!! You have to enter your entry code TWICE for almost everything!! It is very clunky and limited in settings. It's a cheap system and HOME DEPOT nor DEFIANT is no help toward troubleshooting.

Not suitable for a large home
Home depot does not sell addition door/window alarm sensors, motion detectors or any other accessories for the Defiant system that is needed to complete a security system for an entire house. The product manual also does not provide information on ordering new sensors. Home Depot does sell a Saber home alarm system for 97 cents more that is exactly the same system as the Defiant system. However, additional sensers and accessories can be purchased on-line directly from Saber. Programing the unit took some time to understand but the system does work as advertised.
