Ruined a new mahogany deck.
Applied as directed. Never penetrated the wood, but just formed a skin on top. Rain penetrated within 2 months, causing black spots and whitened areas. Now need to sand and redcoat with a different product. Was quoted $1500 to do this work.

Hi LT99, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about your experience using our DeckPlus Transparent Waterproofing Wood Finish on your new deck, and I can understand your disappointment. As it turns out, this is not recommended to be applied to mahogany as it's too thick and cannot fully penetrate the hard and dense wood. In this case, removing the remaining coating and using a transparent finish designed for exterior tropical wood is best. Alternatively, our Solid Color Wood Stains can be applied but will completely cover the wood grain. Your satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Less than 2 year and failed
My painter used this to waterproof deck and it failed to protect from water damages. I email to Behr customer care and no response for warranty.

Did not soak into wood, peeled like cheap paint
I followed the instructions and cleaned the wood with behr all-in-one wood cleaner(that product worked great). As I was applying the stain, I noticed it seemed too rich and thick- that is usually solved by just wiping away the excess with a rag. I went to wipe the excess off and the stain was splotchy and even peeled up like paint chipping. Resulted in a horribly uneven coat and unprofessional finish quality. It's going to take twice as long to fix this products faults.

Actually, our water-based stains are film-forming and won't penetrate the wood like an oil-based stain. Amazing Water-based Stain
I have worked as a painter for 10 year and the construction industry for 15 years. I have never worked with a better stain for use on exterior wood. We sprayed it with an airless paint sprayer and each coat just looked better and better. Additionally, the clean up is a dream compared to any oil-based product. I highly recommend it especially for old cedar siding.

I've used this Deck Plus on many different exterior jobs. Decks/Fence/Steps etc....
It works well on Cedar and Redwood.

ONE OF THE BEST INVESTMENTS FOR A QUALITY WOOD FINISH
One of the best investments for a beautiful quality wood finish. Applied the Behr finish to our mailbox post and box and it turned out beautiful. Totally love this product and highly recommend it to others.

Disappointed with Product
Purchased product because it uses the words "clear" and "transparent" with a picture label of a deck that shows a nice wood finish. I like the look of natural wood. Transparent and clear have the same meaning, except in this instance. I believe the product view and label on the can are a misrepresentation of the outcome you will get. My deck now looks orange and dirty compared to the clean and natural wood I had expected. My only solution is to power wash deck again or to live with it.

Disappointed in the color
I have a new deck and I wanted to keep it the same color (new wood look). So I decided to use this clear 400 transparent deck plus stain thinking it would not change the color. Was I disappointed, it gave the deck a light brown stain look not what I was expecting. If you want a clear look on your wood I would NOT recommend this product. Yes it changes the color, clear is not clear. See photo showing the new wood and the stained wood. Too late now to do anything.

Do not buy this product!!! Pictures attached will say it all. I applied product better than it says to. It says 2nd coat can be applied after 1-2 hours. I waited 24hrs for 2nd coat. After leaving in the garage to dry for 2 days I set them outside for 1 day before installing them. Went to pick them up and noticed the finish was peeling off!!! I will be contacting Behr to see if they are willing to repurchase my lumber for me. Every piece I finished has sections already peeling. Garbage!!

To fix the issue I recommend removing the stain by sanding, power washing at a low level, or using a paint finish stripper. Then clean the surface with the All-In-One Wood Cleaner and let it dry, then apply 2 coats of stain per the label directions. Fence finish covering
I just power washed my fence, 15 years old installation. It was all black and green nand moldy, with the help of this product I was able to bring it to new life again. Let’s see if the product holds to the label that says guaranteed for 4 years…

Looked Great for a few months, then the rain came.
Read the directions and applied accordingly. Looked great for a few months, then a light shower ruined it. Water beaded up like I would expect it to do. Shortly after the rain, black spots started appearing everywhere. Tried cleaning it, but the only way to remove the spots was sanding it. Beyond Disappointed. Pictures included. Any advice is welcomed. Will not be using Behr anytime soon.

Hi Scott - Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the black spots on your project! Based on your picture, it looks like mold or mildew may be growing on the surface. To remove it, I recommend cleaning the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner (you can use it diluted or at full strength for more stubborn spots). If the black spots are still present after using the cleaner at full strength, a stronger mold/mildew remover may be needed to clean the surface. Have been using this product on my deck yearly since...
Have been using this product on my deck yearly since it was built 10 years ago. Have had no issues. Easy to apply, but need to be done in long continuous strokes across the entire length of a board or there will be decidedly pronounced overlap marks on the deck.

Be aware this is not transparent at all
If you want real transparent look somewhere else, this will make your wood darker, I can't tell about durability, very easy to paint a fence either with a roller or a brush, I used 2 gallons on a 10x20x10 fence on one side and it was not enough, have to buy another gallon to paint what is left and then a real transparent stain so our wood doesn't get darker

Although the wood finish has a small amount of tint added for UV protection, it should not have changed the color drastically. To change the color, the stain can be removed with a stain stripper, power washer, and by sanding. Alternatively, it can be topcoated with a solid color wood stain.

Our deck is 20 year old redwood and very dry....
Our deck is 20 year old redwood and very dry. We had it pressure washed and then brushed on the first coat. It looked so good we almost didn't do the recommended 2nd coat! But, a week later we used a pad for a 2nd coat and we're amazed at how beautiful it looks. Highly recommended!
