I bought this thermostat to replace the previous one that broke. I like the simplicity of the 5-2 settings and being able to set wake, leave, return and sleep temps during the week as well as having the separate for Sat and Sun. This one seems to work a lot better than the old one, before it broke. It satisfies what I need to make sure my wife and I are comfortable in our home.

Confusing Setup,Bizarre Defaults,DO NOT TOUCH
I'm utterly frustrated and exasperated trying to get simple functions.Beware - this model has the most bizarre setup,pre-programmed,and it's very difficult and counter-intuitive to try to get it to function on manual - or my own setting.After trying to change the clock time for Daylight Savings, I'm sorry I ever touched the SET button. The directions are twisted and don't work. The internal settings are for the birds,literally. It resets to default schedules that are maddening and wake me when my furnace kicks on at unexpected times, 4 times a day. I bought this model because I needed a single simple program. Whoever designed this seems out of touch with the needs of a common home such as mine. This is so bad, I suggest getting a different model with better reviews.

Hi Joga, we are truly sorry to hear about this. This is not what you should expect. To adjust your schedule, please press the 'Set' button 3 times until 'Set Schedule' appears on the screen. The start time of the Wake period of the weekdays (Mon-Fri) will flash, press the Up or Down button to set the time and then press the Set button. The temperature setting for that period will flash, to program the temperature settings for the cooling mode, place the System switch in Cool. To program the temperature settings for the heating mode, place the switch in Heat. Press the Up or Down button to set the temperature and then press the Set button. The start time of the next period will flash. Repeat steps for each of the remaining periods. Once all changes are made, press the Run button to save them and exit.
To override the schedule you can just use the Up/Down button to set your desired temperature and press the Hold button. You will see the word 'Hold' on the screen, showing that it is not using a schedule. To resume schedule, just press the Run button.

Good product
Love everything about it except for the 1 section of the screen that is clouded, this was installed by a professional Electrician.

DECENT BASIC 5/2-DAY PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT
It was pretty easy to install and program. Basic unit for older system without C-Wire needed for Wi-Fi thermostats. Only minor, and reason for not 5-Stars was that thermostat screen has minor "gray smudge" in lower right corner. I returned original unit, and re-purchased on-line - and second unit was same. Only notice when press controls and LED lights up, but annoying just the same.

Good for the low price
I use this for my central air and heat (not heat pump). It was easy to install and works perfectly. I am using it in an advanced manner with some extras devices attached so there are more wires in the photo. Be careful when setting the back side switch. The center position seems to do nothing so switch full left or right.

This thermometer was only $29 and works perfectly, and was easy to install and to program. Allows one schedule for Monday to Friday and another for Saturday-Sunday (they refer to that as 5-2). Replaced a more expensive one that had the LCD screen stop working (it was 15 years old). We have an oil fired furnace and baseboard circulating water heat.

Waste of money
Do not purchase this item, it is garbage. It lasted a few months then it just started falling apart. The metal pieces on the inside all fell out. A complete waste of money.

I haven’t had it long, but it seems to work great. I purchased it because my old one was off by 4 degrees and I wasn’t sure of its accuracy. This thermostat was $25 and is programmable for differing day and night temperatures, which is the feature I like most. It also can be programmed differently on the weekend. I’m hoping the nighttime feature will save some money long term. It is easy to install, just follow the included instructions.

It is cheaper than everything else for a reason
Both my original purchase and the return replacement had the same very obvious defect in their displays. I returned everything and got my money back.
If you're only after functionality and nothing else, this might do it for you (I say "might" because of functional issues other users have encountered).
Otherwise, give your money to a company with better QC and save yourself some frustration.

Manufacturer is Not Inspecting
I purchased this unit. Opened it up and read the instructions. Labeled the wires from the wall, then removed the old unit. Screwed the new mount to the wall and began to loosen the screws of the wire inputs. Started to insert the wires after loosening the screws; however, the screws for the “R” and “RC” inputs would not loosen. After many tries, I managed to loosen the “RC” input. The “R” would not loosen at all. Tried multiple times, but no success. Returned the unit to the store and exchanged for the same unit. After opening the box, I immediately tried to loosen the “R” screw-would not loosen. Suffice it to say, I will be returning this unit and will look for another manufacturer because I have lost faith in Honeywell when it comes to thermostats.

Easy to follow instructions
Replaced a 10 year old digital White Rogers thermostat... Home Depot had all Honeywell.. I picked this one for having the backlighting and week and weekend programmable. Priced approximately only 25.00. Installed in approximately 15 minutes.. works great!

2. Yeah, it is a pain in the rear to remove and change battery. It will pop out with a big head screw driver. IT IS NOT the tab that hold it to tight, it is the electrical PINS. I ripped the unit off the wall trying to remove it.
3. Yeah it can be used, for a $24 it not bad of a value. Just open it, use epoxy and glue all the pieces together minus the base plate. Install using heavy duty anchor just in case someone doesn't know to use a flat head crew driver to remove it... and yank it off the wall by accident.
4. Time is money and I wasted 2 hours on this piece of work...blowing and hunting down my unit's fuse
It is a wallet saver. Buy it, use it, but know what you getting into. I will keep mine for experimental projects I have in mind. I wish Honeywell a well established company would not go this low on design, it just ruins the reputation.

Don’t buy
This was easy to install. There is to big of a difference between room temperature and setting on thermostat. Thermostat is set for 75 degrees. Furnace won’t come on until room temperature is 64 degrees. I will not buy again.

Bad Computer Tech
This is the 3rd and last RTH2300B I will buy. The thermostat does not register the temperature correctly. It could be 75 out, but the board will read 80, 85 even!!! Its the 3rd one thats had this same problem!!! This product is s LEMON!!! STAY AWAY!!!

This is a great thermostat, I put one in my home in Florida and this one in Nevada. It's easy to install and easy to program. I'm a 63 year old woman/tomboy that can do most DIY projects but I think anyone who can read can install this easily.

Easy to Install
I bought this thermostat to replace an ancient mechanical mercury thermostat that came with my mobile home. Honeywell includes instructions for replacing these and it was very simple to do. The hardest part was realizing that:
1: My cut-off switch for the AC unit was outside, next to it. A lot of smaller, older mobile homes are designed this way so that the heat pump can be serviced without entering the unit.
2: These older mechanical thermostats do not have labeled wires like modern ones do. Instead, you have to undo the screws holding the mercury plate to the board where the wires connect. The labels are next to each screw.
To make the installation process simpler, Honeywell includes a sheet of wire labels that suit pretty much any thermostat configuration. As it was, mine only required the basic one that is included in the instruction manual.
So far, it is accurate and efficient, something I haven't had in months. It was also affordable without being cheap. Great value for the item.

worked about 4 months then heat tied to fan
I purchased this thermostat and loved it at first. It didn’t work if the fan was on auto, so i had to keep the fan in “on” mode all the time. I do that anyway so didn’t mind. I turned the heating and cooling to off one day and the fan to auto while I changed the air filter. When I turned it back on, the fan was making a very strange noise. I flipped it from auto to on a couple of times. There was an arc in the thermostat and then the heat and fan began running simultaneously without me knowing. The HVAC person couldnt be here for two days, and by then it was 95 degrees in the house. I will say that during the first four months it worked very well other than in auto, but failure was similar to other reviews I have seen. To note, my heat is gas and I don’t know if that’s related somehow.

back in the ice age ,, i got a $110 one that after a few millions of years the unit finally failed to turn on the hvac .. so i got this one which is about $25 and it works just a good as the expensive ones .. that you would want to vary each day setting thru out the day ... is not my situation .. so this 5 day 2 day work fine for me ..
tip of the day ,, mark the case with battery type and now to open with a pen or marker because you can't remember stuff like that after a year ...

This product replaced a 30-year old manual heat-only thermostat. Only needed to use 2 wires. Old thermostat did not have the terminals labeled so I guessed which wires to connect to the new thermostat. Instructions did not make it clear to use the W and R terminals, but I read in the reviews that those are the terminals to use for a heat-only configuration. Guessed right and it worked the first time. Thermostat looks so much better compared to the old one.

Finally, replaced the original 50+ year old thermostat in my home with this one. Even as a 5-2 there are plenty of options for what I needed (more in fact, could've done with a simple on/off at 68 degrees). Easy install and good directions but it was a pretty simple install. Programming needs some detail changes but this turned out better than expected, especially for the price. I really don't need wifi, network or internet access at a cost of several hundred dollars to heat my home so this thermostat is perfect. I may even touch up the old thermostat fingerprint.
