3M is no longer a tape company
This is possibly the worst painters tape. Not only did it have an issue sticking it would rip every few inches when trying to remove from walls.

Surprisingly, I've been using this tape forever. Didn't really take notice of the price, but when needed one has to do what is necessary. The 3M ScotchBlue 1.41 in. x 60 yds. Original Multi-Surface Painter's Tape has many "multiple" uses and works well for various jobs.

    Horrible tape!
Hello, I never ever leave revues or comments about products but what I just went through I wouldn’t put anyone else through. I just spent all day taping the ceiling of two rooms. When I removed your Scotch Blue Original Multi-Surface painters tape from the ceiling that was painted 48 hours ago, it pulled almost all of the paint off with it. I can’t believe I actually gave the blue tape a try. This project is pretty much a do over and a waste of a vacation. This product is garbage and I will never use any of your products again. This will also be copied and pasted on every site/comment/revue page I can find so other people do not purchase this horrible product and go through this. I have painted many rooms in my homes and of course tried this tape because it was on sale. Thanks for a loss of 3 day. Your product is horrible!

Hello - We are sorry to hear of the trouble. Unfortunately, the Scotch Blue Original Painters Tape 2090, should not be applied to coatings that are less than 30 days old. For fresh paint we would recommend the use of our Delicate Surface Painter's Tape 2080, which can be applied to painted surfaces that are at least 24 hours old. Please feel free to connect with us directly at 1-800-494-3552 M-F 8am-5pm CT, to further discuss your experience.

Scotch blue is easy to apply to surfaces in preparation for any paint project and it is easy to remove once the paint has dried, leaving clean lines for a professional finish. I have used Scotch blue for years on all my paint project and I have never been disappointed. Scotch blue is not just for paint projects though, it can be used for any project in which you would like to have a clean professional finish.

This product works really well on smooth surfaces to edge and create straight lines. I have had problems with bleeding under the paint with semi smooth surfaces so I am careful to cut in when painting those textures. Some people can cut in without it, but I like a really clean edge.In my most recent project the tape pulled some of the pain off because I didn’t allow it to dry long enough. So be careful what you are taping and how cured the pain is before appplication. That being said, I don’t ever paint without this tape.

                Destroyed our paint and sheetrock
We used this on our painted surfaces to protect them while we stained adjacent wood. When we puulled it off the painted surfaces it not only removed the paint but the paper layer of the sheetrock. Very frustrating

                  Disappointing
In the past, I used the tape to great effect. But the roll I bought recently is terrible. Once the paint hits it the edges curl up, even though they were firmly pressed down. And when I peeled it up the edges we're very sloppy. It even took some of the paint with it! Very disappy.

If I could have given a zero rating, I would have. I just finished removing the tape after painting a shelf on my wall. Now, I have to PAINT the wall!!! I am so aggravated right now! The tape pulled off the wall paint. The walls were painted 6 months ago, so they are definitely cured. I tried pulling the tape slowly, then more quickly---either way, the results were the same. I knew I should have purchased the green tape!!

This tape caused so much damage to our beautiful new painted walls. It totally ripped the paint and primer and even the drywall paper in several cases right off the wall it was so strong. We were finishing off the trim in our brand new home after priming and painting the wall a week earlier and purchased this tape to help with cutting in the trim. After being up on the wall for an hour or less than in most cases. it did terrible damage to our walls throughout the house. We used a top grade Drywall primer and Behr marquis and Sherwin Williams paint and a professional painter. We are just heartbroken.

I painted my entire house, including trim, cabinets and doors. I bought 3 or 4 varieties of tape along the way, and this 3M tape was the best one. Masking with tape is not as easy as it looks, and honestly masking tape manufacturers should advertise successful methods and be more realistic about how to properly use masking tape. If you're trying to make a smooth paint line on a textured wall or wood that is not perfectly sanded, simply putting a line of tape and painting on it WILL NOT give you the results you want. The trick is to put the tape down, and first paint over the tape line with the BASE COAT of paint. This fills in all the little nooks and crannies in the tape line. Then you can paint over it with your top coat of paint and rip the tape off immediately after you're done painting, and you will get a perfect line. If you're painting trim and cabinets, its also tricky. Usually you simply can't get a perfect edge even with premium tape. Most builders and professional painters will either paint trim before mounting it, freehand (takes a lot of skill, but can get really good results) or put a thin bead of caulk between the trim and the wall.
