Answer This Question

A:  That's not what we expect to hear! Rust-Oleum Wolman F&P Finish and Preservative must be applied to uncoated wood to ensure proper penetration and drying. If the stain is sticky on the surface, we need to gather more details to get to the bottom of this. Please give us a call at 800-373-6333 for further assistance. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

A:  Glad you asked! We would not recommend applying the Rust-Oleum Wolman F&P Wood Finish & Preservative over the Wolman RainCoat because the RainCoat is a sealer that cannot be topcoated and the F&P product must be applied to bare wood in order to penetrate and dry properly. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Q:Will the stain and preservative dry with run marks if applied with a spray bottle

            Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for reaching out! Our Wolman F&O Finish and Preservative may be applied with a natural or synthetic bristle brush, paint pad, pump sprayer, or airless sprayer. When spraying, work on a 30-40 square foot area at a time, making sure to back brush in the direction of the grain to remove any drips, runs, or uneven coverage or surface puddles. Take care not to over-saturate the surface with the finish, or allow it to puddle to prevent shiners, tackiness, excessive drying time or uneven appearance when dry. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

A:  Hi Dave, Wolman F&P Finish and Preservative needs to penetrate a bare wood surface, so any remaining sealer including F&P would need to be removed by stripping or sanding the surface prior to recoating. If the sealer is faded or not uniformly present on the surface, you can use Wolman DeckBrite powder concentrate or Deck & Fence Brightener liquid concentrate, followed by pressure washing to restore the surface and remove and residual coating or water repellent: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Wolman-1-gal-Deck-and-Fence-Brightener-Case-of-4-16116/204069612 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

                        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Dave, thank you for reaching out! For horizontal surfaces, we recommend applying one liberal coat to the surface, until the wood will not absorb additional product, taking care to avoid puddling. A second coat is recommended only if the wood is highly porous. If a second coat is needed, we recommend applying them wet-on-wet or within 6 hours of the previous coat to ensure proper adhesion and penetration. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2
