Q:I do not understand Yield / Coverage? Your description says it covers 633 sq feet; but if each package is 16 sq feet (24" x 94") and there are (8) packages on a pallet, I come up with 8 x 16 = 128 sq feet?..... So really confused how much to order? Please clarify.

    Answer This Question

A:  If you zoom in on the picture of the label where it says R21 24"x94", it also says 8 Pieces: 79.15 Sqft. So each piece is 24"x94", and each bag contains 8 pieces making 79.15 sq ft per bag. Times that by 8 bags per pallet, = 633.2 sq ft.

Q:What is the recommended vapor barrier product with this insulation?

A:  There is no vapor barrier requirement. Frankly, unless you think you have a humidity issue, it would be better to leave it without any kind of barrier. It is dense enough that it won’t allow too much transfer of a lot of moisture, however permeable enough to allow basic ventilation. If you feel you need a barrier, you might buy a roll of Tyvec barrier sheet. I would not recommend using plain plastic.

A:  Vapor barrier not needed with this product.

A:  check with your local building inspector as in some areas they do not require a barrier but in others code requires it. I am in CT and was told that it was required by code but I could use any type of plastic that I wanted (did not have to be thick or made just for vapor barrier). good luck!

A:  This was for the floor of a barn my wife is using for yoga, so I went a bit thick and used Johns Manville (Common: 1-in x 4-ft x 8-ft; Actual: 1-in x 4-ft x 8-ft) AP Foil R- 6 Faced Polyisocyanurate Foam Board Insulation. When I checked this out it seemed like it was going to hold up better.

Q:The rebate looks like I HAVE to use a contractor. This means that the rebate is useless to me, because I will not be saving any money by purchasing this item, and then spending MORE to have a CONTRACTOR install it. I will actually LOSE money, as opposed to purchasing something else.

A:  Hi Redbeard64! Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. Per the rebate the product must be installed by a participating contractor. Unfortunately, I am not able to provide further information being that a zip code is required. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

A:  Yes. It’s not the method of installation that gets you the energy rebate, it’s the purchase/installation of the product itself. As long as you have receipts for the product you purchased (and if necessary, photos), that will be all the verification you’ll need in case the IRS would come back to question you.

                          Answer This Question

A:  If it is fighting gravity or vibration, it will always need support to prevent sagging over time for below roofing, below ceiling or below flooring applications. So long as the insulation is not blow in as wire support or any other pourous support material would be like cooking a baked bean on a grill (whoops there fell another one).
