Q:I want to put this in my living room. Will an upright piano be ok sitting on this flooring?

Answer This Question

A:  Should be okay

by|May 2, 2023

A:  I think so. Mine has a heavy workable I use for projects and has held up well.xxx

by|Sep 10, 2013

A:  We have heavy furniture on our flooring (beds and dressers) and have had no problem. However, we put soft felt stick-on pads on the legs of all furntirue to prevent scratching. When we first moved in we had our box spring and mattress directly on the floor for a time until we could get a new bed frame and over time the staples that stuck out of the box spring (unbeknownst to us) caused a little scratching on the floor. But they were very sharp staples so it's understandable. We've had no problems with other furniture and we love the flooring. We think it's much more durable than laminate planks.

A:  Here is a link to a free square footage calculator: http://www.calculatorpro.com/calculator/square-footage-calculator/ Doesn't get much simpler than that.

A:  lenght times width

by|May 2, 2023

A:  Measure the length and the width of your room in inches and multiply it. Then divide that number by 144. The remainder is the square footage.

A:  length X width

by|May 2, 2023

A:  Measure the length and width of your room and multiple them. For example, if your room is 11.5 feet long and 12.5 feet wide. Just multiply 11.5 X 12.5=143.75 sq. ft.

A:  Measure two sides and multiply. If it's an irregular space break it down into squares and rectangles. There are math websites that will walk you through it if you are still unsure.

Q:Can this be used over old pine flooring that has some paint on part of it or must the flooring be sanded down or removed?

    Answer This Question

A:  Yes, as long as the paint is not to thick. It does not stick to the floor. The smoother the subfloor the smoother the finished floor will be when completed.

A:  i put it down over 16 x 16 ceramic tiles - did no prep work other than cleaningaceramic

      by|May 2, 2023

A:  Yes it can. You want the floor underneath to be as level and smooth as possible. It doesn't actually connect to the floor below, its a floating floor, planks connect to each other and just lay above the subfloor so paint or whatever is under it will not matter. You just want it to be level and smooth to place this flooring over.

      by|May 2, 2023

A:  I would make sure the flooring was flat and not buckled. The vinyl flooring is somewhat forgiving, but it does have its limits.

      by|May 4, 2023

A:  will go over anything as long as its flat

      by|May 2, 2023

A:  absolutely, that is the perfect application for this flooring. Just make sure there are no nails sticking up and the tolernace level or floor flatness is 3/16” over 8’. Also, make sure the room is clean of any dirt or dust that might stick to the grip strip and contaminate the adhesive. The product needs to be acclimated in the temperature controlled room for 48 hours prior to install.

A:  The surface must be flat and smooth to install any floor.use leveling compound and or sanding as needed. If there are significant defects bigger than can be handled by those measures you may need to replace some wood. It doesn't matter if it's painted or not as long as it is flat, smooth and not compromised by dryrot etc.

A:  We put the flooring down over wooden subfloor. We painted before doing the floor and had paint dried on it. We just used the shop vac to clean up any debris before putting down the floor.

A:  You would want any loose dirt off and any large lumps, but it doesn't have to be perfectly smooth the floor is very forgiving

        by|May 2, 2023

A:  That is fine....you can go right over paint spills

        by|May 2, 2023

A:  I would try to keep the floor as smooth as possible, but I couldn't imagine it being too much of a problem unless the paint is "caked" on there. If that were the case, I would sand it down and/or scape some off. I used Kilz sealer on my under-floor before installing the flooring. I turned out fine. (the Kilz was used as a sealer/primer for my under-flooring which was damaged by dogs peeing-TMI right?)

A:  Clean, but you do not have to remove the paint. We put ours down in the laundry room over very old concrete. It looks great!

          by|May 4, 2023

A:  I had some over-spray from my walls being painted and used a putty knife to remove most of the rough material from the slab. Just want to ensure there isn't any really big cracks or holes in the slab that could cause moisture or damage the vapor barrier during install. The flooring is very forgiving in the sense that it doesn't have to be a perfectly smooth slab for installation. I did have some large gouges in my slab and used some smoothing grout to repair them prior to install. As long as the paint spots don't causes "humps" I would just sand them down a bit and install your vapor barrier. I used a the foam barrier on top of the 6mm vapor barrier and it really made a difference in the end. Much more cushion and floor sound was reduced. Hope this helps out.

          Answer This Question

A:  You can install these on stairs but you would have to glue them down to the steps like the old school way.

          by|May 2, 2023

A:  i just redid my stairs, you can get wood treads and stain them to match the floor and it looks great

          by|May 2, 2023

A:  I don't think it is appropriate for stairs. Contact the manufacturer. They may have a coordinating product for the stairs.

          by|May 2, 2023

A:  thank you for your question...we do not recommend using Allure on stairs. If you choose to you would have to glue it down using a vinyl glue which would void the warranty on the stair area only. We do have a quite a few customers that install in on their stairs and are happy

A:  We've put ours down in stages, and all the boxes matched. It's only been down approximately six months, so I'm unsure if long-term fading. Are your rooms that brightly lit?

            by|May 4, 2023

A:  doing the floor at different times you will get different lot numbers and the manufacturer will tell you that the flooring with different lot numbers the color may be a little different

A:  Mine hadn't but Isuppuse given enough time anything would. I've also got the engineered wood version of this product and that does change color over time. Brazilian cherry does that. It's not a defect. The vinyl version which I have in some rooms doesn't change.

            by|May 2, 2023

A:  It's only been down a week. However, the instructions warn that it may fade if it gets a lot of sun

            by|May 2, 2023

A:  depending on the amount of sunlight in the room yes it cold change colors once it is installed. If you are talking about color variation between lots, yes there is. If you chose to install in stages you could have issues.

              by|May 2, 2023

A:  I haven't had mine that long but, I don't think it would discolor.

                by|May 2, 2023

A:  i suppose it might fade a bit with age but it shouldn't be a problem - it is suggested you buy the whole kit & kaboodle at once so, as with wallpaper, you get the same run color

Q:how to install next to a bathtub?

A:  Yes leave the space next to the bathtub or it will buckle and the seams will come apart. I installed it flush at first by mistake then went back with a straigth edge and cut 1/4 inch gap and covered it up with round trim and caulked it.

A:  You'll want to leave a small gap so you can make a seal in between. I did this in our laundry area and we used regular bathroom caulking in the gap between the floor and wall. I plan to do our bathrooms too.

Q:Glue strip vs locking vinyl flooring

                    Answer This Question

A:  This flooring does not glue to the subfloor. Instead, it glues to itself. It is a floating floor just like the locking hard floors, but it is so easy to install because you cut it with a utility knife instead of a saw.

                    by|May 2, 2023

A:  The locking feature is the glue strip. This is the same as the store sample.

A:  This does have a glue strip for connecting. If you install it correctly, you shouldn't have any issue with the glue strip. It's a very easy install.

A:  Glue strip holds up much better when you have pets. Click laminate warps and peels. My adult children have had theirs for several years. We've had ours about six months.

A:  We put ours down without underlayment -- on concrete in the laundry, over old click laminate after we sanded the badly curled parts, and over roll vinyl in the bathroom.

A:  For concrete slab install I used SimpleSolutionsMoisturbloc 120 sq. ft. 12 ft. x 10 ft. 6-mil Film Vapor Barrier Underlayment on top of the slab and then used the SimpleSolutionsSoundbloc Foam Underlayment for Laminate Flooring - Reduces Noise (102 sq. ft. Coverage) on top of the Moisturbloc. It worked awesome. It has some cushion and the floor noise was greatly reduced. Plus, this took up the small gap between the flooring and the transistion moulding. I transitioned from the laminate floor to the tile floor. There is a transition moulding for going from the laminate flooring to a carpeted floor as well. Ensure you get the right type for your project.
