Q:Does this auto siphone if the gas can is placed above the discharge spout after being started and “primed” without the pump?
by|Jan 22, 2020

Answer This Question

A:  No, this is a battery powered pump and must be turned on with the on switch to work. It does not need to be primed and once the pump is switched on it transfers the liquid until empty or until switched off.

Q:Very nice idea instead of pouring gas through nozzle while holding 5 gallons of gas. Can you put the can on the ground and pump up to the gas filling inlet? If so, shouldn't you show this option in the picture?

    Answer This Question

A:  No, you can't put the can on the ground and pump up to the gas filling inlet. I use a recycling garbage can with a flat top lid to put the gas container on. Some of the newer gas containers have an safety insert in the top and this pump will not be able to be inserted into the container!

Q:Thanks for the responses. I should have added to the question the following: I have had some (limited) success by adding an extra length of smaller diameter hose on another type of pump. Could I do that with this pump, as I have been able to work around the anti-siphon valve.

                    Answer This Question

A:  This pump works via an impeller at the end of the discharge hose. So unfortunately it wouldn't work because the end of the discharge hose needs to be in the liquid for it to function. Thank you.

Q:Is it possible to rig this to empty an automobile fuel tank into a gas can? (It looks like it will only do the reverse per the pictures.) And, if not, does Home Depot sell a battery-operated one which will?

                      Answer This Question

A:  No it won't. Car gas tanks have a long curved neck ,and have an anti siphon device located by the tank.

A:  Sorry but this cannot be used to siphon gas from an automobile fuel tank into a gas can. The intake hose is too wide and too short to do so. I am unaware of any battery operated pumps on the market which are able to do this as well. Thanks.
