Q:Can these be used for a short window header in a 2x6 wall? Or do I need the 6x hanger? They seem to be out of stock everywhere.

Answer This Question

A:  HH4 is sized to fit in a 2x4 framed wall. 2x6 wall requires HH6 hanger. The hanger should be available through local retailers like Home Depot. We keep some stock at our Brampton facility and a retailer can order them by contacting our customer service. Lead time would be 2-3 days. Contact Pro Desk at your local Home Depot. Note that this is structural hardware and its load carrying capacity needs to be verified against actual load at the connection.

Q:Can it use for 5 feet wide window on bearing-wall? Thank you!

    Answer This Question

A:  HH Header Hanger is a structural hardware and it needs to be selected based on specific loads applied to that 5-foot opening lintel. This is done by a qualified professional such as an engineer. Q:Can we use a sandwich of two 2"x6" with this hanger instead of one 4x.. since 4x.. lumber doesn't seem to be available?

      Answer This Question

A:  HH4 cannot be used with 2-2x6 lumber as 1/2" gap is too large for the hanger to perform properly. Consider ripping a strip of 1/2" plywood with its width matching width of 2x6 (5 1/2") and sandwiching it between the two pieces of 2x6. The piece of plywood needs to be as long as the 2-2x6 lintel. The entire assembly needs to be fastened together to act as a unit.

Q:I have a non-load bearing wall . I have a new door opening with a header and one trimmer. Can i use the HH over the one trimmer ?

        Answer This Question

A:  HH header hangers can actually eliminate the need for trimmers. I am assuming you meant to ask if the HH hanger can attach to a single 2x stud. If that is correct, then yes, the HH can attach to a single 2x stud though attachment to 2x studs will result in two round holes not being filled in the studs and load reductions as noted in the load table at the following link: https://www.strongtie.com/facemounthangersssl_solidsawnlumberconnector/hh_hanger/p/hh. Answer This Question

A:  This hanger is sized for a 6x member, but is typically intended for door and window headers. It would be up to the Designer to specify the appropriate hanger based on framing layout, demand loads, local building codes, etc. Thank you!

A:  The complete question did not come through, but I am assuming you want to connect the 4x4 to the 4x8. Based on the description I am not clear what the framing layout is in order to direct you to a possible option, but the Deck Connection and Fastening Guide (F-DECKCODE13) found on our website details many critical deck connections. Ultimately it would be up to the Designer to specify the appropriate connectors based on framing layout, demand loads, local building codes, etc. Thank you!

A:  Is this the condition you are looking for? Does the 4x8 joist rest on top of the 4x4 post? https://www.homedepot.com/p/Simpson-Strong-Tie-BC-ZMAX-Galvanized-Post-Cap-for-4x-Nominal-Lumber-BC4Z-R/206059722

Q:With this header hanger, won't there be a bulge in the sheetrock that you lay over the header? The hanger makes the header wider does it not? Perhaps a 1/16 inch on each side?

                Answer This Question

A:  Del, The HH is made from 16 gauge steel (approximately 1/16" thick), but this typically is not an issue. Sheetrock is generally forgiving. You may also wish to speak with the sheetrocker; he will likley have a method to handle this if it does seem to be an issue. Thank you!
