A: Using the hanger allows you to eliminate the jack studs, that's the point of using it.
For example if you wanted to put multiple windows side-by-side with only 4x4 posts between them, using the hangers allows the spacing between the windows to be less.

A: Hello Ericp, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie. The HH hanger can be used with SD screws however, we do not have any specific load values for how the hanger would perform. If you wish to explore using the SD screws then you could explore using the SD #10 by 1.5" or 2.5". If you want to discuss this further please call us at (800) 999-5099. We look forward to speaking with you.

Q:Will these work for a non load bearing interior closet door if the header is 2 2x4s?

Answer This Question
A: Hello Andrew, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie. The HH could potentially work for this application but the HH4 only has a width of 3 1/2". Shim would need to be designed and added to the double 2x4s before installing the hanger. Simpson Strong-Tie does not have details on how to add shim. If you wish to discuss this further please call us at (800) 999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

Q:What nails should be used with the 6x hanger? The manufacture work sheet says 16d 2 1/2”. I tried but it’s too big for the hole. The next size that’s 2 1/2 would be 8d.

Answer This Question
A: It depends on the size of the post/stud it is attaching to. If attaching to a 2x post, use 0.148" diameter x 1 1/2" long nails. If attaching to a double 2x post, use 0.162" diameter x 2 1/2" long nails. If attaching to a 3x post, 0.162" diameter x 2 1/2" or 3 1/2" long nails can be used. The hole size in the HH6 is 0.171" diameter. If using galvanized nails, they often have a crusty coating on them from the galvanizing process and may be tight, but should still be able to be nailed through. Zinc is soft and some may scrape off, but plenty should remain to provide protection. Thank you!

Q:Can these be used for a short window header in a 2x6 wall? Or do I need the 6x hanger? They seem to be out of stock everywhere.

Answer This Question
A: HH4 is sized to fit in a 2x4 framed wall. 2x6 wall requires HH6 hanger. The hanger should be available through local retailers like Home Depot. We keep some stock at our Brampton facility and a retailer can order them by contacting our customer service. Lead time would be 2-3 days. Contact Pro Desk at your local Home Depot. Note that this is structural hardware and its load carrying capacity needs to be verified against actual load at the connection.
