Q:Can the right side drain inlet be 2". Our shower is on the right hand side of the toilet and per NC code it needs to have a 2" drain inlet. It shows the shower on the right in the pic but in the installation guide it says its 1.5" on the right inlet.

Q:How far away from the vent pipe can you be?

Answer This Question
A: I am sorry I am not sure I understand your question. This unit must be vented. A vent line must run from this unit back to a main stack that goes up through the roof. Therefore, I am not sure what you mean by distance from a vent. If you are asking how far a vent line can run from the stack, that would depend on the plumbing code in your state. Plumbing code varies from state to state, and its interpretation varies by inspector. For this question you would need to speak to a local qualified licensed plumber or the plumbing inspector in your town. This unit must be vented, a mechanical vent or air admittance valve will not work.

Q:What is the best way to fasten the toilet to the floor?
by|Feb 2, 2024

Answer This Question
A: That would ultimately depend on what the floor is made of. Since concrete is the most common let me share with you how I would do that. I would first set the toilet in what will be its final installation location. Then using a sharpie mark onto the concrete, the location of the anchoring points. At those points I would drill holes in the concrete to receive ¼” wedge anchors. I would install wedge anchors. The length of the anchors would depend on how deep the holes are drilled. I would tighten the nuts up to set the wedge anchor into the concrete. Then remove the nuts and wash. I can then set the bowl onto the floor and ends of the wedge anchors should stick up through the bolt holes in the bottom of the toilet bowl. Using the nuts and washers I can now attach the bowl do the wedge anchors that are attached to the floor.

Q:Can this be used in a wet vent system? My house has only one stack, both vent and drain. Can I tie into this or do I need to put in another vent?

Answer This Question
A: Per the manufacturer’s technical department, you can. However, they recommend you tie it at the highest point possible and also make sure it is tied to the top of the pipe if the stack runs horizontally. For further questions or explanation Saniflo can be reached at 732 305 2200.

Q:How much does it typically cost to have a saniflo installed in your basement

Answer This Question
A: These questions are routed to the technical department of the supplier. Although I can answer technical questions about the product, I am not able to give you an estimated cost of installation. Even though I am a plumber I would not make a guess without seeing the job site. I would suggest you contact a local qualified licensed plumber. If they come out to the job site and you tell them what you are looking for they should be able to give you an estimate.

Answer This Question
A: If you scroll down the Home Depot product listing page you will come to a section entitled Product Details. If you expand that section, you will find PDFs of the product documents. Information concerning venting can be found in the instructions. It states the following, “The macerating unit must be vented. It has a 1-1/2” inlet on the top of the cover meant for this connection. It must be connected to a vent system according to your local plumbing codes.” Further it also states elsewhere that mechanical vents cannot be used.

Q:What is the dimension from the toilet drain hole center to the back of the toilet?
I see the notes that the macerating unit can be installed within the same footprint of the toilet.

Answer This Question
A: I think what you are trying to confirm is if the toilet is installed with the back of the tank resting against the wall, as is normal, that there is enough room under the tank and behind the bowl for the pump to also be installed in front of the wall. To that I would say yes there is. Your question prompted me to look through all the pictures and document PDFs and I can see why you would ask this question even though I have not been asked this before. I have already spoken to Saniflo and have asked them to supply a better rough in sheet. Thanks for the question.

Q:I need to connect a toilet with a grinder pump to the drain of the washing machine. can you help me with that? maybe I should use a check valve like the ones found in irrigation pumps? Thanks Hector Villar

Answer This Question
A: You cannot tie a sewage pump into the discharge of a washing machine. That would be extremely dangerous as it would result in cross contamination. The discharge and vent pipe emanating from a sewage pump must tie into the waste system both directly and correctly. If not done correctly there is a serious risk of sewage and potentially lethal odorless sewer gas venting into the home. II would suggest speaking with a qualified local licensed plumber or the plumbing inspector in your city.
