Q:Is there anyway to set when the compressor kicks back on to recharge? I used to have one that went to 150psi, problem was it did not recharge till pressure in tank got down to 50psi which was useless and time consuming, especially when filling tires. Is it a seperate regulator thats required? This unit only has one regulator so I think I will have same problem as last one. Any ideas what I need to look for? Thanks

A:  Dear motodrummer, I wouldn't make any modifications to this 150 PSI compressor -- for obvious safety reasons. You may need a larger compressor if you're using it for "big air" jobs -- like filling tires. I use mine for upholstery and cabinetmaking projects -- works fine, and the occasional recharge cycle takes about 22 seconds to get back to 150 PSI. Safety first! Natasha

A:  The pressure switch is factory set and not adjustable (without taking something apart). It kicks in at about 120psi and shuts off around 150psi. The regulator knob adjusts the pressure available to your tool. I have one of these compressors and have been happy with it. You can look at the manual here: https://www.tttenviro.com/wp-content/uploads/Manual-Porter-Cable-120V-AC-6-Gallon.pdf

A:  You set the desired max pressure. I keep about 95 lbs in mine. When it gets down just a little, to around 88-90 lbs, it automatically recharges. There is no adjustment I know of for this. If you had a system that went as low as 50, then you had a defective tank, to my mind. I don't think this is a common problem, certainly not on my system.

    Q:Remove no-mar pad
    by|Jan 15, 2021

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello Tt, To remove the no-mar pad please disconnect tool from air supply and engage trigger lock, before removing or re-installing no-mar pad. The no-mar pad reduces marring on the work surface. It can be removed, and stored inside the end cap, magazine to provide increased depth-of-drive for toe-nailing applications. A:  Milwaukee makes various size cases In their Packout system. Very durable and adaptable.

A:  Hey Will, I have the same nailer and I have no case for it either. Just looked at Porter-Cable web site and they show a 22 degree nailer and that one comes with a case. If you find where to get a case let me know. I think my email is somewhere on this page.

Q:can any air compressor be used with this?
        by|Dec 12, 2020

        Answer This Question

A:  Sure aby compressor will work as long as it can deliver the pressure required by the nail gun.

        by|Jan 2, 2021

A:  Probably almost any compressor can be used with it as long as it has enough capacity to keep the pressure up enough to keep it working. Too small of a compressor might cause intermittent delays while the air pressure builds back up. NOTE: There are varying air fittings on hoses, compressors and tools, including this one. You have to make sure that your components can connect to each other. If you buy this tool, make sure the air hose has a compatible fitting, etc.

Q:I have a DIY project to remove carpet and install a hardwood floor in a 1200 square foot living room. Is this (Porter-Cable 6 Gal. 150 PSI Portable Electric Air Compressor) appropriate to use with a Hardwood Flooring Nailer for installing a hardwood floor?

        Answer This Question

A:  You would have to determine what your nailer requires. Since pneumatic nailers run on air pressure, all you need is a source of air to the appropriate pressure. The question then is how much air is cycled through for your nailer - is it so much that you have to wait for the pressure to build? This system supplies 2.6 cubic feet per minute, which I have never been able to outrun when framing up walls. It also compresses up to, if I recall, 150 lbs. Most nailers I know of need under 100 lbs.

        by|Jan 22, 2021

A:  Yes I used mine with a hardwood flooring nailer with no problems. Working at homeowner speed there was no problems with it keeping up.

        by|Dec 4, 2020

A:  Yes I just installed a hardwood floor with mine I would buy a different hose. As the one that it comes with leaks air from the fittings.

        by|Dec 5, 2020

A:  Yes, you will need a proper hardwood floor nailer as well.

Q:I have a DIY project to remove carpet and install a hardwood floor in a 1200 square foot living room. Is this (Porter-Cable 6 Gal. 150 PSI Portable Electric Air Compressor, 16-Gauge Nailer, 18-Gauge Nailer and 3/8 in. Stapler Combo Kit) powerful enough and to handle for the nailing and installation of a hardwood floor?

            Answer This Question

A:  I've not used it for this purpose, but assume that you are nailing into an OSB or plywood subfloor. I've had no problems using the nailer(s) with oak trim pieces, through a layer of gypsum wallboard, and into a wooden stud, which would be on par with most flooring installations.

            by|Nov 10, 2020

A:  Powerful enough, most likely. I'd check the requirements of the floor pneumatic nailer you're planning to use, most operate between 70-100psi. Is it large enough would be the question. As 5 gal tank, it uses its pressure quickly and the compressor will kick in often. If you get into a rhythm and move quickly, you may find yourself having to wait for the compressor to catch up.

A:  I haven't used mine for this application specifically, so I can't give a perfect answer. However, I believe it would do the job. The description does say used for flooring. Hope this helps.

            by|Nov 12, 2020

A:  Power is not the issue. It easily generates the pressure needed to drive any conventional nail gun or stapler. It is not designed for large volume air demand like pneumatic tools or the sort of staplers roofers use. Those require much more pure air volume. I’ve framed walls using 3” framing nails with this. It is plenty powerful assuming you don’t intend it to sound like a machine gun in use. If you keep it to a second or 2 between nails, it’ll go all day.

            by|Nov 9, 2020

A:  Absolutely but you will need to get or rent a pneumatic flooring nailer because these nailers are only for surface nailing and the hardwood flooring has a tongue and groove that you will be nailing into the tongue. But for the trim you will need to use the finish nailer and/or brad nailer. The stapler will not be much of any help at lest not for me. Good Luck!
