Answer This Question

A:  Hello, yes, the Bleeding Heart plant can grow in a container. Just be sure to provide regular water because the plant does not tolerate drought or heat. But not too much, because it doesn't like wet feet either!

Q:does it grow well in mostly shade areas ?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hello, yes, the Bleeding Heart will grow in partially and fully shaded sites. Just be sure there is plenty of soil moisture (dry shade under trees is not desirable). The perennial goes dormant in summer and dies back to the ground so it may not "hide" an area for very long.

A:  Hello, yes, this Bleeding Heart will grow in Mt. Pleasant, SC. This area is on the most southern portion of its ideal growing region so it would definitely need a woodland site with plenty of shade and moist soil.

Q:we move a lot. can it be planted in a pot?

              Answer This Question

A:  Yes, the plant can be grown in a container, keeping in mind that the plant dies back and goes dormant in mid-summer. For year round aesthetics, it would be better to use the plant in a mixed container. Right now, the plant is in a 6" diameter pot. For a single plant in a patio pot by itself, an 8-10" diameter pot would suffice. The pot would need to be stored in an unheated area, such as a garage, during the freezing winter months.
