Quaint perennial easily grown in average, well drained soil in part shade to full shade. Individual leaves of the graceful, soft green, 2-3 ft. tall foliage are less deeply divided than other Dicentra species. In mid to late spring, arching stems are held above the foliage, bearing 1 in. long, rose pink, nodding, heart-shaped flowers with white protruding inner petals, giving rise to the common name of 'bleeding heart'. Usually goes dormant in mid-summer and dies back to ground. Use in shaded border and in woodland garden. Because of summer dormancy, plant among other developing perennial, such as hostas or ferns which will fill in the garden spot.
