Q:Would this tile be suitable for a kitchen floor? Would it be hard to keep clean?

Answer This Question

A:  Good Afternoon, This tile would be great on a kitchen floor! This tile is highly abrasion resistant, making it great for this high-traffic location. This tile also offers a high skid resistance rating which can help prevent falls if the floor is wet. This tile is textured and has range of thicknesses throughout the surface. For some this is uncomfortable to walk on without shoes, but most customers have no issues with this. To keep this tile clean, we recommend sealing it with a stone tile sealer http://thd.co/2eUNUaz will help with stain prevention and cleaning. Be advised that sealer can alter the look of a tile, so we recommend testing it on scrap to see the results prior to using it on your entire installation. If you have any further questions, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

A:  It would be beautiful on a kitchen floor, but know that it is real stone and must be sealed properly or will stain if something is spilled.

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Ann, The type of adhesive you use with this tile depends on the surface you are installing to. Typically, we recommend installing to concrete as it is the best surface. Home Depot always recommends Custom Building Products installation materials, and Versabond Fortified Thinset http://thd.co/29Po1DR is a good option for installing to concrete. As for the sealer, you can choose whether or not you wish to seal the tile. We always recommend sealing the grout if you choose to not seal the entire installation. You need to make sure that you use a sealer that is safe for natural stone, such as a Penetrating Sealer http://thd.co/1TFzOUL. Be sure to test the sealer on scrap prior to doing your entire installation and follow the instructions on the packaging of both products for the best results. If you have any questions about the installation materials, you should get in contact with Custom Building Products. They can be reached at (800)-282-8726. If you have any further questions about the tile, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

A:  Good Afternoon, Being as matching grout colors are a matter of personal preference, it is best for you to decide what you feel works best. Home Depot always recommends using Custom Building Products installation materials. # 9 Natural Gray is a great choice to coordinate with this product. Grout can alter the appearance of an installation, so this is an important step to not overlook. Home Depot offers dried grout samples in the flooring department of your local store. We encourage that you take a tile to the store to compare with these samples. If you have any further questions, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

        Answer This Question

A:  This is natural stone, but it is slate. It is not stain resistant at all. You will need to use a sealer for it like Miracle 511 Impregnator

        by|Feb 13, 2019

A:  Hi Marcus, This tile is made from natural slate. It is a porous material, so it could be at risk of staining. To prevent this, you can seal the tile with a sealer that is safe for stone http://thd.co/2cKrS9e. This is the only size format that we offer for this tile. Each tile is approximately 3” x 6” and mounted on a mesh backing. Here is a link to the entire Crag Sunset collection http://thd.co/2def8ZC. Answer This Question

A:  Hi Dan, This tile should not be used outdoors because of the slate. The slate is at risk of discoloration over time due to exposure to the outdoor elements. Other items in the Crag collection, such as the subway, hexagon and the black quartzite products http://thd.co/29u2bsr are safe for outdoor use. The Crag products are made of different types of stone, and even different types of slate are more or less porous. The best way to assure that you can use a product is to check the product page and use the information for the product you want to choose your product. If you have any further questions about this or any of the other products, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

Q:I purchased a polimer modified thinset for the installation over a solid mosaic tile in the bathroom , and durrock in the kitchen for it's exceptional adhesion . Is this ok with this type of mosaic slate for proper bond on both surfaces.

                        Answer This Question

A:  HI David, A polymer modified thinset is great for installing this natural slate mosaic! While we always recommend taking down the existing tile prior to installing the new one, it is possible to install over tile under certain conditions. The tile you are installing over cannot be sealed, being as sealer acts as a bond breaker. Also, this tile needs to be flat and even or else the new tile will not have a proper surface. Be sure to follow all of the directions on the packaging of your thinset. The manufacturer of the thinset can answer any questions you may have and offer advice about this specific installation. If you have any further questions about this tile, please reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

A:  Hi David, While a sealer is not necessary, it will certainly help with cleaning off the grout. Home Depot does offer a matte penetrating sealer from Custom Building Products http://thd.co/1S3fRW1 for the most natural look. Be sure to test the sealer on a piece of scrap to be sure that you are happy with the results prior to sealing the entire install. This tile is slate and porous enough for the sealer to adhere properly. If you have any further questions, feel free to reach out to our customer service team at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!
