A:  Hi! Although suitable for floor installations, we recommend consulting a qualified contractor to determine if this product will suit your needs. The natural stone chips of our Crag Quad Black Quartzite are approximately ½-inch thick and have slight variations in surface height that may not be desirable for some stairways. If interested, our Liverpool Hex Dark Grey offers the look of natural stone with the consistency and durability of more easy-to-maintain ceramic material which may be a good alternative for you. It can be found here, https://thd.co/36gkpL0. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652.

Q:Can the mesh backing holding the square tiles be cut easily to fit around a countertop? How would one cut the tiles themselves if needed? Does home depot sell matching trim pieces for this tile? Aside from a presealer, backing board, and grout, what other materials are needed for a diy installation? Thank you!

          Answer This Question

A:  Hi! Yes, our Crag Quad Black Quartzite can be cut to suit any installation preferences. As for cutting this product, we advise laying out as much of a full sheet as possible then trimming the mesh with scissors to isolate areas which require cutting. Individual chips which require cuts can be removed from the mesh backing then cut. We recommend using a wet saw with a diamond tipped blade as that will offer the best cut with the least chance of breakage. Attempting to cut full mosaic sheets with a wet saw may dissolve the adhesive and cause pieces to separate from the backing. We currently not have any trim pieces that directly coordinates with our Crag Quad Black Quartzite. In these cases, we recommend using a Schulter Trim. You can also find our Installation Guide under “Info & guides” on the product page. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652.

A:  Yes this tile works well on the floor, we have had it on the floor by our back door for 2 years and it is holding up well and looks great. We are using it as an accent around our tile that looks like stressed wood.

A:  I’m not sure I’d use it as a floor tile unless it were in a shower. It’s not completely flat, so normal wear and tear on slate, which is soft and could chip, wouldn’t be ideal. But you could use larger slate tiles and accent with these. They were great as a backsplash with my slate floor and black slate counter top.

A:  My "tiler" sealed it after installation and prior to use. You may want to google or ASK at a tile store about a sealant that leaves a gloss finish on all stone . Sorry I can't be of more help as obviously we love our shower floor AND have great taste! ;-)

A:  Hi! If excess grout is not cleaned in a timely manner during installation, grout haze may form over the surface of your tile and negatively impact the appearance of your floor. Grout haze will trap excess dirt and make cleaning your tile difficult. If grout haze is an issue, we recommend using a grout haze remover to minimize the haze after installation. Home Depot always recommends Custom Building Products installation materials and they offer a non-cement grout haze remover that can be found here, http://thd.co/2igYxY0. We also recommend sealing natural stone tiles because of their unglazed finish in order to help preserve the look of the tile. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652.

                      Answer This Question

A:  Hi, Dale! Finishing trim is not necessary for this product as the product is made from natural stone and has a natural appearance on the face and edges. If you prefer, you may use a Schluter trim to finish the edge. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652.

                        Answer This Question

A:  Hi! Our Crag Quad Sunset Slate is made from natural stone and should be sealed prior to grouting, then again after installation in order to preserve the look and make the tile water resistant. Chipping may be an indication that your tile is absorbing water. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652.
