Q:Why can't the new 5ah battery fit in the older makita hand tools? The battery case has an extra lip on it that prevents the battery from sliding all the way in.

A: Thank you for your question on the Bl1850B. New batteries and new tools come with a chip inside called star protection its communications technology that monitors conditions during use, allowing the tool and battery to exchange data to protect against overloading, over discharging and overheating. older tools do not have this technology in place. For this reason Makita made Bl1830B it fits on the old and newer tools.

A: You can remove that lip with a Dremel tool or small die grinder. Then they will work fine on the older tools.

A: Maybe some very thin ones like new growth but definitely nothing that has a woody stem.

A: Thank you for your question. The XRU02Z 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Cordless String Trimmer, Tool Only is not intended for this purpose.
by|Oct 10, 2019
A: Probably not. I would not think that any string trimmer could handle grape vines but, of course, I have not tried that. This is a nice, lightweight trimmer that works well for me on my residential yard.

A: Yes, you can cut grapevines with this trimmer

A: This battery pac trimmer used 0.0080 poly line like most others. Don’t believe it would cut grape vines well nor would comparable trimmers because if the line. If you put cutting blades on it I believe it could work. A beefier (higher power) trimme machine would be better.
This trimmer is excellent for trimming grasses

A: I am really impressed with mine but I think grape vines might be a little tough for anything less than a commercial grade trimmer.
