New batteries and new tools come with a chip inside called star protection its communications technology that monitors conditions during use, allowing the tool and battery to exchange data to protect against overloading, over discharging and overheating. older tools do not have this technology in place. For this reason Makita made Bl1830B it fits on the old and newer tools.

A:  You can remove that lip with a Dremel tool or small die grinder. Then they will work fine on the older tools.
