A:  If it beeps when you push any button that means it works. The numbers represent minutes. If you are warming food from the refrigerator, you might need to push number 2 then push Enter. That is the button on the very bottom on the right. The button on the left of Enter is to Stop if you want to just warm the food for one minute. Read the directions in the pamphlet that comes with the microwave oven.

A:  I would think it is safe that you are asking about the sides. Since every microwave has the wire out the back and door opens in front. It can go edge to edge. "0" clearance. You might be happier though with a slight clearance.

The owner's manual states that you should allow 4 in. space between the microwave's top, sides and rear from any obstructions to allow for proper ventilation.
