Q:The switch doesn’t always turn on the fan, even though I have the timer set off?
by|Oct 5, 2019

Answer This Question

A:  The MA-T51 has a minimum load of 0.3A. If the fan it is controlling does not meet that minimum load, it may not turn the fan on consistently. Instead, if you have neutrals (bundle of white wires) located in the wallbox, Lutron would recommend using the MA-T51MN. This neutral-based timer has a minimum load of 0.05A.

Q:Will this work with the "whisper quiet" bathroom exhaust fans that have a maximum load of 10.6W? The specifications normally give the maximum power supported, but this is a super-light load.

    Answer This Question

A:  The MA-T51MN has a minimum load of .05A. The whisper quiet fan, with its 10.6W, operates at .088A, therefore the MA-T51MN should be able to control it. This particular timer does require a neutral connection, so ensure neutral wires are present in the wallbox where the MA-T51MN would be installed.

Q:will this work with panisonic fans

      Answer This Question

A:  The MA-T51 has a minimum load of 0.3A. Newer Panasonic fans typically have an operating load less than 0.3A. Lutron recommends using the MA-T51MN, which is a neutral-based timer. This drops the minimum load down to 0.05A.

A:  Did not work in my case. I'll need to find an MA-T51MN version as advised by Lutron.

        by|Apr 13, 2023

A:  Not in my case. The Panasonic fan didn't draw enough amperage for the switch to work.

A:  The snow finish will appear glossier than the white finish.

A:  Actually, snow ("SW" suffix) is flat white; white ("WH" suffix) is gloss white. I am returning my snow timer because I want a gloss finish. Apparently, HD does not carry the WH version.

A:  I have installed three of these---all on bathroom exhaust fans with no light---works perfectly.

                by|Mar 6, 2019

A:  Yes, the MA-T51 could control a fan without a light. However, this timer has a minimum load of 0.3 amps or 36W. Based on the symptoms you are describing it sounds like your fan may not meet the minimum load of this control. A:  The MA-T51 is only rated to control 600W of incandescent/halogen, 450W of Magnetic Low Voltage halogen, a 3A fan ,or a 3A mixed lighting/fan load. Lutron would not suggest using LEDs with this device.
