Q:Can it be operated at 220 V 50 Htz instead of 240 V 60 Htz?
by|Mar 31, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: This ENERGY STAR LG 11,800 BTU 230-Volt Through-the-Wall Air Conditioner LT1236CER Cools 550 Sq. Ft. with Remote is designed for use in the U.S. where the frequency for electricity is 60 Hz so it has to be plugged into a standard 250 V, 60 Hz, 3-wire grounding receptacle protected with a 15 Amp Time Delay fuse or a 15 Amp circuit breaker. If the label attached to the back of the unit says 240 V 50/60 Hz, then it's safe to use it at 50Hz, but if it only says 240 V 60 Hz, then running it at 50Hz may cause it to overheat, not work, or run at the wrong speed. Running appliances on a slower cycle than what it has been designed for (60 Hz frequency vs 50Hz), it will cause the electric motor to
turn slower. This inevitably results in an increased strain on the motor windings, causing the compressor to burn out...^Ivan
