Q:i cut a rectangular piece in my ceiling that is about 1" wide by 3" long. is it suggested to cut another piece of drywall and put it in the hole and use this repair patch to hold it in place? or should i use another method to repair the drywall?

Answer This Question

A:  If your ceiling is textured, you will need to remove the texture around the cut out area to a size slightly wider that the patch. If your ceiling is not textured, you can use the patch directly on the cut out area. There is no need to place another piece of drywall underneath the patch. The HDX patches are made for repair of damaged areas without replacement of the drywall.

Q:My drywall hole is only about 2 inches. Can I use this patch with spackle instead of drywall compound? And isn't it true that drywall compound doesn't adhere to painted walls very well anywall?

A:  As long as the patch is bigger then the hole that's the best way to go. When it dries don't forget to sand the area smooth.

A:  You can resize this as you wish with a scissors it is very thin material. I would suggest you to use one of these as 2" is pretty big hole you will have difficulty to apply the compound it will keep falling behind the wall. No matter what you will still need to use drywall compound to paint it. First you need to cover the whole with the patch then use compound to cover the patch and you will need to send it to get a smooth surface. I hope this was the answer you were looking for.

A:  It would cover but I had trouble with the solid metal ones. The edges flexed and the finish was poor due to having to use so many coats. Spackle drys quicker and, in my opinion is better for small holes and dents.

Q:I have a hole on my ceiling right where it meets the wall. I'm wondering if this patch can be folded or bent at a 90 degree angle. Is it flexable and capable of doing that?

              Answer This Question

A:  Yes. You have to put drywall compound (drywall mud) to conceal the patch. (smooth it out the best you can and let dry- smoother the better). Then you will spread thinset and set tile of choice.

A:  All depends on how big the hole is and how many coats of plaster/ compound you plan to use. For small holes its safe to say a smaller container will do just fine.

A:  he weights on the products differ by "size" of the drywall patch. The determining factor for which patch you would need is based on the size of the hole in your drywall. Drywall patches come in 3 sizes: 4" x 4" ; 6" x 6" and 8" by 8". Typically you want at least a one inch overlap around the hole. For example a 2" to 3" hole in the drywall would need a 4" x 4" patch to repair.

A:  No. The material can’t be cut. Using the whole thing works great.

A:  The patch is thinner on the sides to make blending easier. If you need a smaller one, they sell several sizes. The sides also alow better adhesion so it wont lift latter.

A:  I think it needs to be a little bit bigger than the hole itself. You could probably trim it somewhat though.

A:  Yes. You can cut this patch for smaller holes. You need to be sure that you do not cut it too small. Using the entire patch for a small hole would prove difficult when trying to cover the hole with joint compound.

A:  Yes you can, if the reason you want to do that is a bigger hole then 4" you can buy the bigger size as well.

A:  Yes, you can use multiple patches on the same hole. If you're looking to strengthen the area, you may also go to a larger patch that would cover more of the surrounding drywall and provide additional support to strengthen the damaged area. Patches are offered in 4", 6" and 8" sizes. Thank You.
