A: Hello Valued Customer, thank you for your question. This item does not have plastic, it screws into the outlet for stability. For Permanent Installation: Remove the fuse or turn the circuit breaker OFF before installing. Remove the wallplate from the existing grounding duplex wall outlet and discard it. Plug tap into the wall outlet and secure with the center mounting screw provided.

Q:Can I plug an extension cord into this

Answer This Question
A: We have minimal kitchen counter space in our 1950's 2BR ranch-style home. Rather than take up needed prep space when using our 6qt. slow cooker, we've attached our slow cooker's electrical cord to a very short 3-pronged extension cord so our slow cooker can set on the top surface of our cooktop/stove. The connection between the two cords fits together snugly and the 3-prong fits snugly into the expansion outlet.

Q:Can this be used on a 20amp GFCI outlet? If not, is there a product you can recommend for such an outlet? Assuming it can be used on a 20amp outlet, would it be safe to plug in power strips to each of the 6 outlets and then use the power strips?

A: It all depends. The unit is only rated at 15 amps but does have its own "circuit breaker" button on the top so if you do exceed its rating, it will pop.
You can plug in 6 multi taps but it depends what you are plugging into those, remember your total amps plugged in can't exceed 15 amps or 1725 watts.

A: No, it's for a 15amp outlet. And, no power strips should be used in conjunction with this tap. 6 is the maximum number of devices that should be plugged into it.

A: Hello MikeD, thank you for your question. Technically it will work but most GFCI outlets are usually installed in wet or damp locations like in kitchens or bathrooms. We do not recommend that these are used in those in locations. Q:I need to buy a replacement screw

A: First, I removed the cover plate; then I realized the provided screw was still too short. Recommend take provided screw to hardware store, then match screw size except about 1/2 inch longer. You may need to cut a bit off the screw, to make it work. Note: the provided screw may be metric size, I don't recall.

A: I would call GE customer service. They'll tell you or send a free replacement. You can also go to HD and I'm sure they could guesstimate a few inexpensive options.

Answer This Question
A: It sticks out from the switch plate a little over an inch. It is very handy and I constantly use it. I recommend the switch plate

A: It sticks out just under 2" from the wall and is approx 4inches wide.

A: Approximately 1.7" thick. Usual installation: just plug in and rely on friction to keep the Tap in place. Instead, the switch plate may be removed, so that the Tap is mounted nearly flush with the wall (thus eliminating the switch plate thickness); the Tap comes with a long mounting screw to secure the Tap, instead of relying on friction to keep it in place.
